Need help or some advise

I have been clean for a while now. My pych Dr. prescribes an anti anxiety drug and klonopin 1mg 2x per day. The 60 a month always last the month I dont abuse them, But recently I was in a bad car accident and broke my arm and shoulder may need surgery. In the er I told the Dr. just to give me 800mg ibuprofen. But I was severe pain ibuprofen did nothing for me. I couldnt sleep and was in agony constantly. I went to see orthopedic surgeon to see if it was necessary but for now hopefully not. But did give me script for 60 5mg percocet and I had it filled. So far I havent gone off yet. It was precribed on Mon 4/4 and I still have a few left. The problem now is I am still in a lot of pain but should I take another script when I see him tomorrow or ask for ibuprofen. I just dont know if I can handle the pain no sleep and trying to deal with my 6 and 4 year old children. Any advice would be nice. I do know 1 more script of 60 5 mg percs could set me just cause this one didnt. So any and all adice wwould be appreciated Thanks

I think everyone is correct here and you already know the answer.....Some how some way you will justify taking the rest of them and when they run out will be the true decider if you are re-addicted.  In my experience with legitimate pain issues, I EVERY TIME get re-addicted.....If you quit now detox will be minimal and you will hopefully be well on your way again.....The pain might not be as bad as you think so going cold turkey again just to get a good idea of how the REAL pain is doing!  I think you know what you have to do.....Just remember that we are all addicts and once our little addicted brain gets to thinking it is hard to stop it!  Good luck and God bless!

How many do you have left?  It's been 9 days so at 5 per day, they should last you two weeks.

I know shoulder injuries are very, very painful. I agree with taking meds for pain. No question.  I also, agree with keeping your guard up all the time. So ask yourself the important questions, okay?

I would do this (and have): You don't need an rx for ibuprofen. It's Motrin. Take 800mg 3x a day.  See how that goes. If you're still hurting, then go for the pain med. But,at least give yourself a chance to assess.

All the best and great job on the clean time!

The thing that stands out here for me is you say you are in alot of pain, no sleep and dealing with a 6 & 4 yr old.  I think your brain is already in gear and running.........sara

If I were you, I would put those pills down and run like the wind. While 60 days is wonderful, don't misunderstand, you haven't come out of the original fog yet. Already you are on your way to a 2nd prescription. I think you are on dangerous ground and you have taken your will back.

Are you doing any aftercare? If so, run this by them as well.

My suggestion is to give the Motrin a try---you didn't do that yet.

I wish you the best.

Yeah my wife holds them and gives me 1 or 2 every 5 hours depending on pain. I did notice I am not getting high but does hep with pain. Averaging 25mg of perc a day for the last 8 days is way below where I was when I was highy addicted. I might just ask for ibuprofen when I go back to ortho see if it helps.

yes...you can use pain meds when you really need them....just make sure it's not that little spot deep down inside your mind telling you you need them because it wants to get loaded...

i've had that experience. pain that i could have managed on my own, but that little voice deep down convinces me to take one...

still, i've also had very real pain and took meds and it did nothing for getting me high, but it sure did help with the pain. just be sure you really need it and you can stop when you're done...like the previous poster said. having someone else hold on to them for you is a really good idea, too.

Ask yourself if your strong enough to take the minimal amount to relieve your pain and completely stop when you recover. You shouldn't have to endure the agony when there are medications specifically designed for that purpose. I would be careful with the refills and if you think you may be too tempted, have someone dole them out to you. Those medications are great when used properly and I see no reason why you should question yourself when you are in legitimate pain. I think you are educated enough about addiction to know the signs and stop them before it becomes a problem. Remember the idea is to alleviate pain and not catch a buzz!
