Need help please!!

Spouse taking Seroquel, Lithium, & Geodon. Auditory hallucinations & delusions began about a month ago with no prior history of mental illness (we've been together 14 years). He was however abusing oxycodone, oxycontin, xanax, soma, & ritalin. We took him to the ER 3 wks ago & he was put on risperdal 1mg x1 wk, then 2mg before going back to ER.  With no past mental illness history & age ~40...I want to believe that this is all substance-induced but we're going on a month & although they have changed his doses/meds, he is still having the auditory hallucinations/delusions....can this be permanent?!?!  He has stopped abusing the narcotics/ritalin the first time we took him to the ER by the way. Need help please!!!

Seroquel also gave me hallucinations when it was prescribed to me during detox. I remember the name well, thinking back then "why the heck would anyone need this stuff?!" It certainly was very bad for me.

sorry I should have put a little history down.  I admitted him to the hospital because he was abusing cold medicine.  they put him in the psych ward and gave him that med along with others.  But the seroquel he was given a script for when leaving the hospital and he kept having signs of drug induced schizophrenia.  I demanded the dr take him off it

Oh wow!  That's one HECK of a cocktail!!!  I have to second the question...why was he put on so many heavy hitting psych meds?  Was he put on the meds AFTER he started hallucinating?

The meds absolutely need addressed.  I wouldn't be surprised if the medications were the main culprit.  When someone who DOESN'T have a significant mental illness (specifically, a psychotic illness) is put on those kinds of medications, the outcome can be that the person ends up presenting with symptoms of a psychotic illness.

I would recommend getting this sorted out ASAP, and I would ask for an inpatient hospitalization to do so, if possible.

Good luck, please update the thread when you can!

Did he experience delusions/paranoia on the Ritalin? Is that why they put him on these meds? Was there a diagnosis?

Even if there's a diagnosis, it might be time for a second opinion if he's hallucinating!

If he has no history of mental illness why is he on those heavy psych drugs? I think he is experiencing side effects of these meds. Get him to a good doctor and get him off those meds.
