I gained the weight with Lyrica too.
I take gabapentin for fibromyalgia. Only 300 mg at bedtime. Otherwise it makes me so tired and depressed during the day. When I was first prescribed it, I looked it up on the computer. Several people talked about abusing it. Don't know why tho.
Lots of people have no particular reaction at all, including me. I take it for nerve pain from MS, and it works pretty well. The max acccepted dosage is 3600 mg/day, which is a lot. Many MSers take that much, and I haven't heard of reactions like those described. Of course, everyone is different.
If you can't tolerate Neurontin (gabapentin), you might try Lyrica. That made me gain weight like mad, but once again, your mileage may vary.
I have heard of people abusing it, especially people who have to take regular drug tests. It doesn't show up on most drug screens and I guess that people do get 'high' off of it. I was prescribed it for nerve pain as well, and I also had a bad reaction to it. I had the same locked in feeling along with a lot of shakiness and almost agitation I stopped taking it after a week because I couldn't handle the awful feeling.. I think that it affects people in very different ways due to the action it takes on the brain. So some may have a 'high' euphoric feeling, while others have more of an anxious, unpleasant feeling.
