Norco 40mg daily

I'm glad I found this forum! I have never taken pain pills in my entire life up until about 6 months ago. I fell off the back of a u-haul truck and landed on my back. The dr. put me on 10 mg norcos which didn't help at all. My dose was gradually increased to 40mg (10mg 4xday) and that seemed to do the trick. That was 4 months ago. I no longer have any back pain, so I decided to quit cold turkey 3 days ago thinking, no big deal. Big Deal indeed! I still have my prescription left and I'm wondering if I should drop back and punt by slowly tapering off, or am I now through the worst of it and keep on keeping on with cold turkey?

You are quitting exactly what I was taking. Norco 10 x4 daily. But I had been on pain meds for 10 years, and tapered off 20 mg daily Methadone a month before I quit the Norco- finishing up day 20 now...

Hang in there, the first 5 or 6 days are the worst, and I am still struggling with lethargy and energy level after lying around being completely miserable. I just saw my neurologist yesterday and he encouraged me about vitamins and exercise, especially a good B12 to help with that. Definitely check out the health pages up top- my neuro gave me Cymbalta to help but I am reluctant to take any MORE meds, so I got 5-HTP from GNC which stimulates serotonin production. Cymbalta is an SSRI so why take drugs when you can take supplements to do the same thing?? Also I read a Cymbalta forum that had lots of peeps who said it is wicked bad withdrawals to get off it- JUST what I wanted to think about after stopping these two poisons!!  : 0

I hope that didn't discourage you .. I was only pointing out that had you quit a month ago, it would have been easier, if you wait a month.. harder..  So the time is now..

After detox, you should be okay.. Do lots of reading here and watch out for cravings which could drag you back in.. its best to come to a place like this and complain about cravings than try to ignore them..

Everyone here is lucky to be alive and more than happy to help you ..

3 days.. your a superstar.. Tomorrow is the first day you will stop feeling worse.. you will probably feel much better. .

4 months and 40 mg isn't too bad.. Your gonna pay, which you are, but believe me.. Dosage x Duration = Pain..

I was 250mg x 10 years of abuse and had nightmares while half awake.. The best time to quit is now.. I am 48 days clean and still have problems.

Yes, plenty of fluids, immodium, Hyland's restful legs and load up on vitamins as well. Definitely lots of C, Bs and anything that will help your energy. If you are having a terrible time with anxiety because of this you can talk to your doctor about a prescription (non addictive) called Clonodine. It is a blood pressure lowering med that slows you down a bit. Your doc may have other ideas that could be helpful. And just be very thankful that you did this now and didn't wait...this stuff sneaks up on us pain patients and before you know it you've got a problem. It sounds like you are very aware and will do great.

Yes I think benadryl is just fine.  It will help you sleep maybe too.  Melatonin is a good thing also, it didnt help me sleep when I was deep in WDs but it is natural and lots of people use it.  It's very safe.  You could take tylenol, but I think Motrin or an anti-inflammatory will help you better.  Also, you could get some Hylands Restful Legs that really helped me not only with the shakings cold/sweats but also to rest better.  If you check out that Thomas Recipe in the right corner over there, it lists lots of good things you can do.  You sound like youre doing real good, congrats!!!  Keep tough!!  You will make it thru this, and its so much better when you get there!! :)  Have a great evening.  I have to go cook supper.  :)  take care and God bless.

Thanks for the quick replies! Never have I been to a forum that answers questions in minutes. It really helps too because when you are going through this, hours can feel like days! Ok, sent the wife to get plenty of Gatoraid and a bottle of Immodium. I've been taking melatonin for sleep and that has worked ok but last night I added a benadryl 25mg to get things going and it really seemed to help. Is this ok while I'm trying to detoxify my system? Also, should I take some tylenol or something for these fevers/night sweats? Thanks for your help.

yes it is and you can be graphic.  we have all been there.  I would get you some Immodium, will help with the cramping and diarrhea/loose stools.  Drink lots of liquids too, if you can get some vitamins.  Really helps and the liquids will flush you out sooner.  Good Luck to you!! Keep posting...

Ok I will keep on with the ct and call my dr. tomorrow to let him know as well. I didn't think that I was that bad until I tried to quit. Just goes to show you how sneaky these things can be. As I type, I'm having pretty bad abdominal cramps and have had very very loose stools (sorry trying not to be too graphic)for the past day... almost uncontrollable...is this the norm?

You are definitely almost there. Don't look back. A week from now you will look back on this and feel much better. Just give yourself a few more days to feel lousy...you can do it. Congrats to you on figuring this out sooner rather than later.

You are almost through the worst. I am on day 14 and in all honesty the worst days were 3-5. I would tell your doctor what you are doing in case you have any other underlying conditions. Also it is important to tell your loved ones so they can help. My boyfriend has been so great and supportive while I get the stuff out of my system. This is the place to come for encouragement.
