gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms

I am getting ready to take my final dose of vicodin today and am very nervous about withdrawal symptoms.  I've only experienced a few hours worth and that was enough to scare me sh**less. I've heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal.  Has anyone had experience with this?

Neuromtin I know is a non narcotic pain medicine that works somehow on the brain and the nerves around the brain. I have never heard it be used for wds. It's most common use is for seizures. The other I am not familiar with. I would say if it is not over the counter than consort a doctor.

it does work and well.  it enables you to eat, sleep, and function with very little wd symptoms.  i took 3000 mg to start before the wds started then as needed.  i am not a dr so at your own peril...it does make you kind of absent minded and clumsy so be careful.

also please be careful i originally used the stuff in january to wd from 25 vic 10/325 a day 2year habit. once i found out the ease of wd's i had an excuse to relapse every week.  i would use 4 days and then wd on gabapentin for 3.  eventually i got addicted to the neurontin too.  i have recently stopped it all and gotten aftercare and that is the most helpful thing.  today i am 13days piate free and 9 days gabapentin free.  i am slowly getting my energy back and can sleep through the night in 1or2 hour incraments with the help of melatonin.  just be careful and make sure you have support and a plan because just stopping and easing the withdrawals only teaches you that there is no downside to all the ups.  there is though.  just believe in yourself and stay positive you can do it!

wds will not be fun but in a few days you will be getting better. Your brain has to retrain itself how to produce Dopamine and Serotonin and in the mean time you may feel some temporary depression, may want to cry for no reason, stomach cramps, cold sweats, loss of sleep, nightmares are a few of the wds you may experience. A couple days will make a difference and every day will be better. Try to eat and drink fluids. Warn baths/showers will help too. You can do this. I'm pulling for you. GOD bless.
