Nurofen Plus : Must Give Up!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and found it out of desperation to give up N+. I had multiple foot surgeries requiring Oxycontin and by the time I had tapered off that altogether I had discovered N+ the 'poor man's cousin' for Oxycontin. It began with 6 N+s to do the trick; now I'm up to between 30 and 70 N+s a day. It is wreaking havoc with my excema which requires me to take a strong Panadol (Australian brand for paracetamol) to just get under the shower.

Have gone 2 days without N+ but it's getting more and more difficult to give up altogether.  Can someone please explain approx how long it should take to get it out of my system?  I know about the diarroeah and sweats from withdrawal but I'd really like to have a solid idea in my head of how long the physical withdrawal should take.

I have been practising "Mindfulness" to try and stop buying N+ but I wonder if the physical withdrawal might be playing havoc with my head!

I work fulltime in a demanding administrative role with a big Australian company.  I hate myself for going to various chemists to get the N+s and then having to go into a public toilet up the street so no one can hear me popping the damned pills out of the blister pack, scoffing them down and then waiting for the relaxation feeling to kick in.  That's all I do it for - the relaxation so I can sound normal and calm.

Do hope someone can offer some ideas.  I feel much better for having come clean about all of this.

Thanks for reading

Thank you all so much for your responses.  I shlal look at the links supplied there for other N+ people.  Have been on them and off them for gosh, almost 15 years in different forms but never anything like this.  The Oxycontin set the flood gates going. Have started practising "mindfulness" and I have found that all I got from the Oxycontin, was the ability to relax and enjoy the basic things.  Mindfulness helps with that.  I just need to remember this stuff next time I'm eraching for a pill which could be any tick of the clock.  So far today, I've had nothing at all.  That's quite a plus for me.  Thanks again everyone.  I will stay tuned.  Heniretta

Hi Henrietta,  there's a really long thread, (including some other posters from Melbourne), dedicated to neurofen plus withdrawal, including suggestions of things that have worked for others.  Lots of peeps have come off high doses like you & now feel so much better for it.  As Sudie says, the acetaminophen is very bad for your liver.

Here's the thread:-

Best wishes.

hi , its good you want to stop all this , the paracetomol (acetaminophen) isnt doing your liver or kidneys any good either, your withdrawals should be about 8/9 days , and you will start to feel better, although you may have a bit of trouble sleeping for a while, there is the thomas recipe, top left hand corner of this page, there are lots of things to help you there, i wish you the best, take care,
