Office Detox program for Klonopin and Xanax sedatives.

Hi,
Is it always required to wean off the sedatives like Klonopin and Xanax in a Detox Unit of a Chemical
Dependency Department of a hospital  or can it be done safely in  the office of a physician?
Can you tell me how a doctor can do it in his  office and what schadule of weaning off drugs can be used?

Hi Ramesh and welcome to the forum!
Benzo need to be tapered off very slowly, I don't know how much you're using and for how long, could you give a lil more info about it so that we can help you in a more accurate way.
I have been tapering off benzos at home with the help of an addiction doctor. I'm 4 months clean of oxazepam and in the last phase of the tranxene taper plan.

Google Dr. Heather Ashton concerning benzo w/d.  She is a British physician that has done extensive work concerning benzo w/d syndrome, and you will find a tapering schedule also.  It took me 2 years to taper off of 2 mg of klonopin, so take your time if you can to avoid the w/d syndrome that alot of people experience.  Good luck!

how many do you take a day and how long have you been taking them?  Its not an exact science.  Just lower your usual dose a few mg a day

That is very encouraging for some of the people to know about home detox. However, it is very important that we tell exactly, "How much and how long of Klonopin use that can be safely done at home. A seizure attack can be fatal at home if the person is alone.

you can detox off benzo's at home.  Just gradually lower your dose until you down to zero.  Thats it, youre done. People do it everyday

read up and continue to post, most people on here have a greater undrstanding about what you will go through and offer more encouragement than any dr.
but you may need to educate your dr. on the information you find. many published studies on benzo withdrawal and side effects that most dr.'s don't even know about or understand. i'm doing this with very little outside help besides this site .good luck keep posting
