Enjoy all the rearwards of all your hard work today and beyond. Thanks for all you do. Your going to make an amazing addiction councilor one day.
Everybody who took the time to comment - Thank you all for the kind words and for sharing my joy in reaching 4 years of clean time. Ive really enjoyed getting to know you all. The interactions on this forum have been priceless. My recovery has been a work in progress and I will forever be working on it until the day I die. So it is and has to be with addiction. Ive always been a real private and withdrawn person in my life but you all have brought out something new in me where I feel comfortable to share and open up about myself. This has helped me grow immensely so I thank each and every one of you for taking a part in my growth.
A key to me reaching 4 years had been dealing with the heavy guilt that Ive accumulated and carried for years in my drug use. Its caused me to relapse time and time again. Rick Warren says it eloquently in his book on day 3 of "The Purpose Driven Life"
"Many people are driven by guilt. They spend their entire lives running from regrets and hiding their shame. Guilt-driven people are manipulated by memories. They allow their past to control their future. They often unconsciously punish themselves by sabotaging their own success."
Anyways, Im learning how to forgive myself which I believe is key to me staying clean. I could go on and on but I wont. I just wanted to say thanks to you guys and gals for being such wonderful people.
With Love,
Evan
