methadone withdrawal

I am taking 30mg of methadone daily, I take it in tablet form each morning. If I should suddenly need to suffer through withdrawal, will hydrocodne and/or valium relieve suffering?

hi gnarly, I have a mitochondrial disorder and have been placed on oxy contin before, got up  to 160mg per day an was not really painfree, couldn't decide if it was the Oxy or the pain that was making me feel so bad by the time meds were due (12hourly), pain clinic didn't like me being on Oxy so put me on Physeptone 20mg per day instead. I jumped off the Oxy 6 years ago to try and work out what my actual pain level was and I managed without anything for nearly 5 years however only narcotic based painkillers have any effect and after a relapse  im back at square one. I'm trying to jump off the physeptone but after 60 hours I feel like swallowing a gun. lots of research going on but nobody has thought about quality of life for the people with the label. ,PS tried Mogodon to get me over the worst of it when you cant sleep at all. 20mg no effect, any suggestions anyone. I can't get a job while im on this **** because they think your just a drug addict  irregardless  of a letter from your treating Dr

I really want to thank you again for your input. It would be nice if members of the medical community had offered as much info. before I made my choice to use methadone.

Thanks Gnarly, I did a methadone detox to get of Norcos about two years ago. Like you I wanted to see where I stood. After my detox. I spent the next four days in hell. I couldn't sleep and I spent most of my time is a fetal position. Anyway it was enough to convince me that the dependence was the lesser of two evils. I'm clear that being forced to live in that kind of pain would lead me to something desperate. I am convinced, but thank you for your input. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

hey dude....well I to used to go the pain pill rout chasing away back pain...tried all the pills but non had the staying power to last..a 12hr dose would ware off in like 4 hrs
so they put me on methadone also...the pain mangment dr and I had a falling out
over me taking aim point shots in my spine and if you dident do the whole program
you dident get the meds ...so I wound up at a methadone clinic ...I slowly built up
a tolerance as my pain would increase I would up my dose ...that how I wound up at 150mg and no releaf ....one thing I would like to add is once your off the narcotics for a wile your body resets its pain clock....and you may find like myself as well as many others that otc stuff like motrin or aleeve actually work again once your narcotic free for a wile..the body will create pain to get the narcotics..its a visious
cycle ...it a good idea to go off to find out where you realy stand as far as total
pain...you wont know until your off the narcotics for a wile but it would be good to find out where you stand...my back is still a mess 2 herniated disks and bone on bone in my lower back but im in less pain now narcotic free then I was on 150mg of methadone....go figure....you might want to give it a try...good luck and god bless.......Gnarly

Thank you my friend, your input was most helpful. My doctor prescribes the methadone for chronic pain. I have stayed with it because of cost. I have a number of health conditions, that I won't even go into, but I've been taking pain mediction for about 8years. It's a progressive condition, so I'll always have to take medication. I have taken myself off vicodin a couple of times. The last time it was 10mg norco, but the pain is so intense that it precludes any quality of life. I would like to find a different medication, because of the horror stories concerning methadone. I have tried 6 or 7 non-narcotic pain meds. and they were absolutely useless. After examining my records, two doctors have indicated that nothing non-narcotic will work. Norco's are expensive and vicodin 5 mg. not strong enough. 7.5 mg, vicodin too much acetamenophen. Any suggestions?

hey dude...to answer your question ...yes it should help but you will only be switching addictions....you can usually substitute one narcotic for  another but whats the point???  your best to get off the methadone all together...I was at 150mg and it took
8 1/2 mo to taper off but taper I did and got 83 days clean today...at 30 mg it shouldn't take but a few mo to taper off ...I use a taper givin to me by a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext...it goes like this....10% drop in dose ever 72hr
sometimes it takes a bit longer for your body to adjust like a week or so but the formula worked good for the most part...just start breaking your pills in 1/4s and try going by 1/4 at a time...when you get down to 10mg break them in 1/2 and powder 1/2 so you can break it up into 5 little lines...take 1 less line each week till you hit 5mg then jump off...your withdrawals will be uncomfortable but very doable in the end you will be drug free and it will be so so worth it...good luck and god bless...
message me if I can be of any further help...
