Does Hell begin when you go below 2 mg?

I have been on oxcy's for 5 years (160mg/day)  then to Suboxone 24 mg//day for four years.  I started the taper three months ago.  I have been @ 2 mg/day for two weeks.  I hear all kinds of advise and warnings that the game changes under 2mg.  Just the math is a good indication.  My Dr has not been informed of my decision to taper.  Like everyone else I am afraid he will cut me off and then I'm in a bind.  I do not want any dosing information, but I would like someone to walk me through the challenges of 2 down.  I hope to obtain everything I might need before I take those last steps and jump off.

I have been told there is a treatment with atavin.  It is suppose to ultra relax you and knocks you out during the willy nilly periods.  I do not know if it is true.  Can anyone make an educated comment.

I am having the same problem with valium. Have weaned down to 1 stinkin mg and it's kickin my butt right now. It's not good. The Ashton manual says stop at 1mg. I thought weaning would be more painless than this. Like people here are saying, there is no magic bullet. Can anyone tell me why 1mg is the right point to step off Valium? Did anyone here do that? Why not .05mg?

most people I know that became addicts started because some doctor gave out addictive pills. Why? Many times so they could keep a steady customer coming back. Looking back over the years Doctors were always trying to give me some kind of Benzo or Opiate. A lot of times it's from a bad accident you get demerol and oxy which at the time is a Godsend. There was no good reason for that Dr to give me 90 1mg klonapin years ago. No good reason to give me soma, I didn't ask for it or know what it was except a muscle relaxer. Then most of em act stupid about the pills. No help with a taper around here. I was told by one Dr, "sorry, I didn't know it was that bad." The man was lying, he told my daughter the same thing 5 years before that. They were finding her unconciece. Drs that have carelessly prescribed these meds without good cause over the past 30+ years should be held accountable IMHO.

Hi EvolverU...I just wanted to let you know that reading your post here has helped me today. I'm struggling with withdrawals right now and need encouragement that it WILL get better. With a full time job and two  kids it's so hard to be down and out. But I know the freedom from pills will be worth it. Just wanted to say thanks!

Oh &..'Hell begins' when you become an addict -- detoxing is the undoing of that Hell, not it's creation. (Just thought that might be a good way for you to look @ it 'cause it's so true).

Hi there & Welcome, welcome! :)

Congrats on your taper. That's a pretty darn (& unnecessarily) high dose of Subs you're coming off of. With M'done & Subs, slow & easy wins the race. It's best to do a slow taper under a Dr.'s care (if possible) as the drug stores in your fat & bone tissue & needs time to leach from your body. Rapid drops tend to make w/d's much worse.

I'm not going to lie -- coming off these drugs is no cakewalk but if you're prepared & you really want it, it's Definitely doable & you'll be sooo glad that you saw it through!

A couple of observations (from considerable personal experience & observation in real life & on this forum):

There is no magic bullet. You'll have to go through a period of acute discomfort. My take on it was to welcome it as a cleansing & purging of all the things I didn't want in my body, my mind & my life. Don't fear it. It's the bravest, wisest, most life-affirming thing that you can do for yourself!

In order to make this work, it's absolutely necessary to cut all your sources -- not only to the drugs but to the people & places that are associated with it. I'd stock up on healthy, unprocessed food, Imodium (it'll be your best friend), maybe Clonidine if you can get it, a good vitamin/mineral supplement, some powdered Cal/Mag/Zinc, essential amino acids, epsom salts & plenty of water. Try to stay away from sugar, caffeine, 'energy' drinks, msg, junk food & alcohol. Your body/mind will need to heal & these things will make it more difficult as will many OTC's & pharmaceuticals like Ativan. Ativan might put you to sleep briefly but won't keep you there. It's also, in and of itself, addictive & messes with your sleep cycles. The fact is, during acute w/d's from these drugs, if you're not sleeping, there's not too much you can do. Sleep will return, though. It just takes patience with the process & a little time under your belt. Hot salt baths, massage/reflexology & exercise will help draw toxins out & help kick-start your natural endorphins. So will laughter & music.

The idea with Subs is to get as low as possible & then take the plunge. What are your plans? How are you doing on 2 mgs?

We're here & we're pulling for you :)

Good morning!  I have been on and off of this forum for quite some time. I am on day 10 from opioid detoxing.  Still detoxing for sure.  But I have never taken the Subs, but heard a lot about them. I think you should let your doctor in on what you're doing. He'll help you. I mean isn't that what doctors are for?  Or does he just write RX's and sends you out the door?

A lot of people on here have sub exp, and will be here shortly for help.  In the meantime, Hang in there and don't panic!
