Unexpected detox.... pls help

Hi all... I have been reading your questions and post and I must say this is an AWESOME forum!! I am so gratefull I found it. I never thought that I could go cold turkey off percocets... and you all showed me different. I have the courage now, which is good because my dr would not fill my oxy script today like I expected him to. H knows I have a high tolorence to pain meds and have been on perc's for 6 months, norco since Aug, but got off those in Dec. So I have been on narcotic pain meds for 9months. I am suppose to take 8 a day, but I usually take 12 and last month when he knew I was taking that many all he did was write me a script for oxy so the insurance would pay for it as I still had a cpl weeks before my percs could be refilled.  Anyway, I took 6 today, last dose at 3 and I feel like crap!! already and I haven't even quit. I knew I would feel it a little, but not that much. I should mention that I have been on Norco a few times in my life, for knee surgery and a huge kidney stone and I was able to sucessfully wean myself off and did't have ANY w/d symptoms.  I feel horrible if I go even 3hrs from taking my last dose of percs.  Went to dr today expection a script for oxy like last month... and nothing.. oh execpt phenagren and clonidine... whoo hoo.  Not what I was expecting at all.  also my pain is not diagnosed yet and my dr has 8 other women with the same symptoms.  so here are my questions... I bought a few of the supplements but may have gotten the wrong vitamin B  I got B12, is that ok?? and another question is... I am planning on going to California on Friday over 4th of July weekend, to take my oldest son to college and pick up my younger son who is in california visiting my dad... am I going to be able to get ready for that trip.. laundry, packing etc.. and am I even going to be able to drive 11 to 12 hrs???  I have more to ask.. I just can't think right now. I have taken some meds to help me sleep and they have wayyyyy kicked in. Please... any answers and support you can give would be most greatly appreciated, as you all are wonderful people. Thank you in advance. o and I have 8 percs left for tomorrow, my 5yr old daughter is going to the festival here in town and I need to take her, so I plan on using those 8 percs to prevent me from feeling like crap..  and they are perc 10's. I am sorry if this is long.

I just wanted to thank you all for your responses. I am having a very busy day today. We are having a festival in town today and it is the last day.. went to parade and just got back. Gonna grab a bite to eat at home (cheaper) :)  And I think my 18yr old son is gonna take my  5yr old daughter to do some rides after they eat. I need to get her ready and will post to your responses soon.  I have taken 40mg of oxycodone(percs) today. there was no way I could get in the shower and get my daughter showered and go to these festivities. Today is the last day. I am aware of all of your concerns and I am concerned myself. I do want to be off these pills, been trying by myself, but not being very successful.  I hate the life of being tied to a dr.. telling what, how much, when etc.. I want to be free. I remember what life was like without them, and I do want that life back. I need to go and get my daughter ready, but will post back soon. thank you all so much for your responses, suggestions, and encouragement. It means alot when facing such a horrible ordeal. will be back soon.

Wow...you have alot going on when starting to quit.  If it was me, I would cut those eight remaining percs in quarters (2.5 mgs a piece) .  I would hold on taking anything unless you really need to; this won't be pretty!  I was like you when I stopped the percs/patches as I could only go three hours as well.  You would have 24 2.5 mg tabs then.  If you took a quarter every three hours, then thats eight.  Next day, one quarter every four hours, then that's six tabs. Next day, one tab every 5 hours. Next day, every six hours till you run out.  The Aleve or Motrin, caffeine, Thomas Recipe stuff, etc.  That's how I did it and I even had pills left over because I was going to wait until 8 hours between tabs but at six hours between tabs, I took the plunge and stopped.

I still worked, traveled, etc and could function.  In addition to the Thomas Recipe, start exercising ASAP even a walk around the block.  You have to stay physical or the wds will be much harder.

Good Luck,

Guy

Hey there!!!!

Welcome, yes this place IS a great place and I know I could never have made this journey without MANY people here.

The one part of your story that bothers me is that you are detoxing "unexpectedly".  If you don't want to be clean with every fibre of your being, you will fail.  I don't say that to be harsh but this is not easy.  You went to your doctor expecting your percs to be refilled and came away empty.  If your doctor is forcing you into detox, you are doing it for all the wrong reasons.

So if you DO want this badly, it is very doable.  Your dose isn't too high and neither is your time using, both of these will lessen your wd in severity and length....GOOD THINGS!!!!

Learn all there is to know about what to expect so if and when they arrive you are prepared.  Make your preparations for your drive BEFORE the worst of the wd sets in if possible.  By the time you make your drive you should be OK.  You may not FEEL like going anywhere but once you get moving you should be fine.

WD is different for everyone but I HAD to work everyday through mine.  My habit had become much larger than yours and went on for many many years but I wanted it BAD and more than anything I have EVER wanted.  It wasn't easy, I won't lie but it's one of the best things I have ever done.

I believe b12 is the one that you want.  Don't forget the immodium!!!

Keep posting here and try and stay positive.  Our minds have a way of freaking us out to try and get us to take more pills.  Once clean, most say that wd was not as bad as they thought it would be.

Remember the 4 steps to achievement....."Plan purposefully, prepare prayerfully, proceed positively and pursue persistently"  --  William Ward

You CAN do this with the right attitude and motive and we are all anxious to see another join our club!!!!!

Goodluck and Godspeed,

bob

Hi, welcome to the forum...:)

it's a good idea reading posts to learn more about wds as you have been doing... So about your question and as you already know that it takes some days going through detox, i don't really know about your question of driving so many hours while still being in wds, it doesn't sound the best thing to do, don't you think ? :)  You know that it's going to be really tough for you so i would think that the sooner you start detoxing the best... I will throw away those 8 percs you have left....they will only delay you ... And more or less, you'll be one week clean off by the end of the next week so you can see how are you feeling by then and check if you can drive to california...?

Read the Thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol ( health pages, right side of the screen ) so you can find some stuff to help you through this week, keep being positive, ok ? and stay here posting and sharing how you are feeling and doing and any questions you may have. I'm sure you'll got more answers about your question so that you can make up your mind about the trip to california and how you will  feel by then ..

good luck :)
