Question about valium?

Because of these terrible withdrawals from the oxycontins, my sister gave me some valium.  I was wondering how long valium stayed in your system?  And can you get addicted to valium?  Thank you very much, Babs

Dont take valium to cope with opiate withdrawals.  Valium like all other benzos in the same family can be addicting, although diazepam(valium) is the easiest to get off of because of the longer half life in comparison to xanax and ativan.

Lets get to the basics

Valium = CNS Depressant
Oxycontin = CNS Depressant

The majority of opiate overdoses are from the latter combination.

Be safe, one addiction wont help another, and anxyolitics arent the right medication for your current situation.

As a rule of thumb, never mix depressants, including alcohol.

Listen, I'm no doctor but it sounds like you're losing ALOT of electrolytes with the runs and vomiting. Is there any way you can get to an ER? I'm concerned about you. Wish you the Best, Steve

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice.  I am having a very bad day.  I told in an earlier post that I took my last 3 oxycontins on Friday (I normally took more than that but that is all I had left.)  I still have diahreah and now I have vomiting.  I feel like I'm just going to die.  I can hardly walk to the bathroom.  What would I do without a laptop?  If I die I will make sure someone lets you know.  I have never felt so bad in my life.
Thanks again, Babs

Once you get off valium and a feeling a bit better, you might want to try Trazodone .. its an anti depressent but my doctor put me on it to help me sleep.  I used to have horrible panic attacks (nothing to do with drug w/d .. this was long before I started Oxycontin) .. I have never had a panic attack since being on Trazodone and my previous anxiety levels have really subsided.  I've been on and off various anti depressants other times in my life and have never had much of an issue coming off of them -- need to taper but after that it was always ok.

Barbara Gordons' late 1970's book " I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can" is terrific. She describes in detail her same experience with a Dr that had her on 40mg Valium a day then cut her off. I believe you suggested the book to others, as do I. God Bless,  Steve
PS I think she was on the Valium for many years, too

Some years back I had a 13 yr valium addiction. I didn't abuse them but my dr. kept giving me scripts for them. Then all of the sudden he said stop the valium. No pills to taper or anything. Abruptly stopping benzos can cause seizures and death. It was horrible. I went to bed and stayed there for three weeks. I wouldn't answer my phone or my door. I didn't eat or sleep, but I did fluids down. Finally, the dr. put me in the hospital and from there things got better. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Now I have been on xanax for quite a while but there are no plans to take me off of it. It helps keep my anxiety and panic attacks at bay. I also take an antidepressant that's helping a lot.
It's ok to use them for w/d. Just take as few as you can and stop them after w/d.

Take Care.....LS
