Help withdrawls

hi all,
Another norco addict needs help. Long story short started taking norco about 2.5 yrs. ago.Went as high as 15+ norco 10/325. I started a taper about 3 weeks ago. I am at 6.5 per day now . I take all my pills in the evening
this is crazy.Start at 6:00pm 1.5 until 9:00 pm 5 from 9:00-10:30. then dinner. I am sick all day. I want to get to 5
per day and go cold turkey. Should I do it at 6.5 or keep trying to lower my intake. Any advise would be very helpful and appreciated. I lost my job 16 months ago. To sick and weak to look anymore. I feel that all this is to much at one time. Cant eat during the day and losing weight to depressed. I feel that god has really put it on my heart to stop this abuse and disobedience.

Hi
I know all too well how difficult it is to decide to quit and to stick it out..I have been off and on opiates (all the usual ones) for about 10 yrs. And i've gone thru w/d's many times. And i've relapsed many times, i've been to 3 rehabs and in my opinion, they dont work- for $800 a day, you can stay at home and get thru it.
There are many supportive posts on here and please take a look at the Thomas Recipe.
I personally wouldnt go c/t from 5 or 6 Norco's a day.
Coincidentally right now, i am on day 4 detoxing from norc's and its been really rough. I got down to 1 a day before i stopped.
I also have an arsenal of meds to help, which some people many disagree with and remember i am NOT a doctor.
But this is what has worked for me: stock up on soup, crackers, supplement drinks(such as ensure), gatorade, juice, water. Then get Immodium, Advil or Tylenol, and i have taken a few valium for the anxiety-just for the first 3 days, i use Ambien CR for the first 7 days to sleep-as sleep is very tough to come by..PLEASE know that i am not advocating taking those drugs for any more than a week, i only use them to get me past the worst part, because if i dont get thru the worst part then relapsing is almost inevitable for me.
If you can get/take it, Neurontin helps me with the leg pains- i seem to suffer the worst in my legs.
Also, as others have said, distract yourself! Listen to music, watch some silly movies, get outside as soon as you can and walk-even if you are barely able to walk it will help alot, and hot showers/baths are mandatory for alot of relief.
The physical part is rough, but after about the second day, the mental toll starts..so have some support around you, whether its someone on the phone or by your side-its important to keep your spirits up. And to remember that you will get thru it and you will feel SO much better!!
PLEASE dont be afraid, i wanted to be honest with you, not to scare you but to inform you...millions have gone thru opiate w/d's and are fine and you will be fine too!!
And also know that once you are an opiate addict, you cant take opiates occasionally again-i've tried and it brings me right back to the addiction cycle.
Get into a support group as soon as you can. I go to AA and i've been to NA, its all the same-its all addiction.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and your life will be much better without pills!!
Take care!!

Flushing is a hard thing to do. I was only able to do it once and I felt alot of power from it. I really haven't kicked my habit. I have relapsed at least a dozen times. This is a day by day process. I have been having big time cravings and I have not used in 6 months. Many on here encouraged me to tell my family about my addiction...go to NA. The thought of this was so far from what I ever believed that I would do that it wasn't even worth considering. I said I would die before I told my family or went to NA. I guess I could have. Every detox and relapse gets worse. The day that I went to my first NA meeting I had serious thoughts of suicide. These thoughts would not leave my head. This was the day that I went to my first NA meeting. Rehab is not a solution that cures addiction. Addiction continues for the rest of your life and recovery is a process. I made a deal with myself every time that I detoxed that is I relapsed I would go to NA....I would tell my family. Recovery is a fight and and in early recovery it is common to think you can do this alone. Please keep fighting and learn along the way to use all of the tools that are available to you. This is about getting your life back....for you, for your family. It is so worth it in the end. Let me know if I can help in anyway. Corey

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will get lots of good advise here. Your taking a big first step by coming here and admitting you have a problem. I detoxed from 8-12 hydros a day. I was sick for about 4 days then things started to get better. The mental part is what hits next. Do you have a plan for that? Are you thinking about na or counseling? I relapsed many times before I took this advise.
I preferred just jumping off and quitting ct bc I could not control my use enough to taper for any length of time. If you plan to continue tapering you should be spreading the pills out instead of taking them all at night. Then you start to cut the dosage instead of the time intervals. Have you looked at the health pages for the Thomas Recipe and the amino acid protical? Also PAWS will help to understand what lies ahead.
Keep posting here and use all of the available resources that are available to you. You can do this and your life will be so much better. Best of luch and keep posting. GBU, Corey
