I believe this smell is coming from tissue that is necrotic (dead) within the nose. This would also explain why the smell is worse in warm, humid air.

It has been my experience that the smell you are referring to is coming from perspiration.... we work up some very crazy smells that come out through perspiration. Many call them toxins being released. Not sure about that one - but being in pespiration makes sense to me. Also accounts for the smell being inconsistent and present in your hands.....use this as a lesson learned......

Your post made me think of the ether smell I would get sometimes..It will go away but don't be surprised if the smell pops up months later out of the blue like a sensory flash back.. You can also permanently damage your nose and brain for that matter.. Altering your brain so you are constantly craving is not worth the high it is a curse.. I do hope you have learned your lesson and that you have a wonderful life.. lesa
