Still No Sleep

Still no sleep again tonight. I have not slept in nearly 72 hours. I am OK, though. I just need some sleep. I am on day 6 and for the most part do not have bad WDs now. It seems like the worst has subsided.

Eventually sleep will come, right? My best to everyone.

sleep was the very last thing to come around for me. I agree with Mike...stay as active as possible and even though you really, really want to, DON"T take naps. You will start sleeping. Some Kava or Sleepy Time tea and a hot bath really helped me. The bath would get rid of the RLS for a bit and sometimes I could get to sleep before it came back. No doubt it's a struggle for all of us.
It will come back, and chemical-free sleep is awesome! Hang in there.

Well I'm gonna take another run at getting some sleep, if not I'll back up in another hour or so.  Hoping you get a little tonight!

I know exactly what you are going through. I remember on like day 5 I finally got 30 minutes sleep and felt like I had slept for 12 hours. It's crazy but it absolutely does come back! The thing u should do is to stay as active as possible so by nightime you're just exhausted. I know it's hard but don't think about not sleeping. Just know it comes back....

I am back up and right here with you - my skin feels like it will explode off my body and I hate that feeling.  Didn't sleep last night and was wishing I would sleep tonight but NO.  I had two nights this past weekend, totally unaided, no sleeping pill sleep and it was great - wishing for that now.  Sorry you are still up too!  :(

Thanks everyone. Still no sleep and it is frustrating. It is almost 2 AM. I actually wish 6 AM would get here. At least I could go to work. Thanks for the suggestions.

I honestly feel that is one of the hardest part of detox and withdrawal,,is the no sleeping. We all say it will come in time,,but that doesnt help how you feel now. I DVR'd all my favorite TV series and shows and movies and laid in bed and watched them. I also started playing a game on facebook,,bubble witch saga and that helped pass the time. I also read when I could,,it was hard to focus in the beginning. As much as I hated it,,Id get up and clean or do a load of laundry and I found that after that lil bit of exercise I was tired afterwards. Its a lonely feeling not being able to sleep,,Id lay awake there at 2am and all these thoughts and the horror of my addiction overwhelmed,,try try not to do this. Its hard. I ended up joining netflix and watched shows and movies on my laptop. Id also lay there and watch my kitties sleep ( I was so jealous). Whatever you have to do topass the time away. Dont force yourself to sleep. Listen to your body,,you will sleep when its ready. You just gotta roll with the tide at first. ((Hugs))~Bkitty

I've had some success with melatonin, though I prefer the Alteril.  Seems that sleep is a big complaint for everyone in this situation.  Glad to hear the other symptoms are abating.

sleep WILL come but I know it is awful, this is the part about this whole experience that REALLY still gets me.  I'm 42 days off hydros and I'm 9 days off the xanax/ambien and I had two glorious nights of sleep friday and saturday night - completely drug free.  I didn't even take benedryl or melatonin.  Last night - different story but I've taken a sleeping pill every night for the last 15 years - I don't expect sleep to just come back.  I was put on the pills for lifetime sleep issues.

Here is what I'm doing - hot milk or tea in the evening.  I'm turning off the TV (no matter how much it kills me - I cannot usually go to bed until Daily show and colbert are over but I'm dvr'ing them).  I'm putting soft light on in the bedroom and reading a little each night.  I read an article about melatonin that say you shoudl start with the recommended dosage and DECREASE from there until you feel drowsey.  Me being the pill taker I am thought "melatonin?  yeah the more the better I'll pop two cuz if one is good, two is better" - COMPLETELY the opposite in this cases - less melatonin is more akin to what the brain produces naturally.

I'm also just turning the light off at the appointed time, if I lay there awake after 1/2 hour I get up and do something for a bit.  Some nights are better than others but I really do feel like we have to actualy change our bed time habits to get into a healthy sleeping pattern - like anything else healthy lifestyle choices equal healthier outcomes.  I'm done turning to a pill to sleep.

Just getting a few nights under my belt gives me a mental calmness that I can do it and it will come back.  Every day about 5 pm I start stressing about "will I sleep or won't I sleep tonight" and that is torture.

I just wanted to send some support your way and let you know that it'll come.  Takes the wins with the losses and know that every day you get away from pills you are walking one day towards a normal sleep!

Wishing you Sweet Dreams!

Have you tried melatonin??  You are supposed to take it as soon as the sun goes down. others have suggested alteril (OTC) helps some!  Sleep will come! Congrats!
