Relapse Prevention

I have a new found interest in relapse prevention due to being sick and tired of all the immediate withdrawal talk. I would like to know more about PAWS and Relapse Prevention. Any insight would be appreciated.

Congrats on your sober time!!  That is quite the achievement.  Keep taking it one day at a time as that is all we have.

Remember, life is about creating ourselves~~sara

"Knowledge is power" SO Important. I woke up with the biggest smile on my face. I've read more on this subject this past few days than some may read in a lifetime. Not sure I told you guys this but I haven't had a drink in over 20 years. I can't drink, if I drink I will NOT be back..Serious..However I KNOW that to be true in my case. I learned that about myself early on. For years I experienced (what we now call PAWS) symptoms that I simply used tools for that I learned in AA. My tool bag was very full back in those days. The difference between my alcohol life and my drug life is that early on I conceded to my innermost self that I was alcoholic and could not drink. I KNOW FOR A FACT that I CANNOT drink. This is where I need to be with drugs also. I do know I can't use, I'm NOT normal....I don't want one pill,I want a thousand pills. I can't do a line, I need a quarter ounce....on and on and on... This is my truth. Jesus(*&$@ now I'm crying...talk later...think i just did step 1

addicts and non addicts do things that are against their better judgement everyday. The difference is with us it causes way more immediate problems. This makes it way more important for us to analyze our thought process and realize we control the motor functions that make it possible to take the drug.Alot of people neglect to mention that getting high is fun. This is also a very important thing not to lie to onesself about if trying to stay sober. When we think that we get high only to kill the pain we are making an error in judgement most of the time.Great job on staying clean buddy

Hey dude your doing great so far it make my day to here somebody is pro active and seeking out aftercare....it is critical and so often skipped by people
I have been around this forum for around 2 1/2 yrs we have ''regular''' detoxers who refuse to listen to us on the importance of aftercare I wont mention Names but one guy has been threw this at least 6 times since I have been on here
your time spent at meeting will help you understand the illness better
it will also teach you new ways to think and reason something all addicts need to do so my friend my hat is off to you your doing the right thing stick with it even when you dont think you need it any more and a yr from now you will still be clean good luck and God bless......Gnarly

My God! I just can't get over the value of this information. We talk so much on the forum about quitting our drug use (and in meetings) and the problems it caused, I'm done with that. I don't think  I will ever talk about quitting in a meeting again. If I start the topic, it's gonna be about the reasons we start back useing and how to be better prepaired for it. PAWS that's my new subject...Relapse Prevention. Thankyou so much, I am high on information right now.
