So i went to the doc for Suboxone today...

I posted a few days ago, I have had a problem with 30mg oxyxodones (roxicet)  since August.. I went through my first withdrawls and really freaked myself out..after going cold turkey, and thinking i now had the knowledge to control my recreational use i started using again.. Long story short, this is my 4th time stopping, the previous 2 times have been over the last month or so, and both times i used Suboxoned acquired from a friend to get off. After falling for these devil pills again i decided to go in and use the Suboxone under a doctors care. So today i went into see a local doc who treats alot of people dealing with substance abuse.. ( if your in the NJ area message me ill give you his info).. To me this was a embarassing and trying experience, but the doctor shed light on the situation.. He told me in comparision to others i was lucky for identifying the problem soon..He put me on a 15 day suboxone treatment, he printed out a schedule of how i should take the subs each day.. He also explained how extended use of Suboxone could be very bad, and how getting off of Subs could be very difficult and painful.. Also to my surpise he told me if i wanted i could be off the Subs as soon as 4 days. He said it was upto me.. I feel like the longer im on the subs, the longer ill be able to adress my addiction so i think im gonna stay on the full 15 days. Any suggestions? Could i get hooked on these things in 15 days? Also, he explained i should seek counciling. Anyone know where i could find a counselor who specializes in this? Free would be great?!? Anyone have similar situations?

Everyone is very different in how they react when coming off of suboxone treatment. Some have mild w/d's, some bad w/d's, while some people report having no problems at all. I was on sub for 18wks, started at 8mgs, tapered down to around .25mgs before I finally quit. The first 7-10days were no fun at all, but after that it was mostly mental issues that seemed to be the worst(cravings, depression, anxiety). If you already used suboxone for 5days and didnt have any problems when you quit, then honestly thats probably what you should do again. Obviously you ended up back using so you need to find some sort of aftercare to help you stay clean. The hardest part about this whole process is the staying clean part, its really a daily choice you have to make to not give in. If you do have a problem with depression then finding an anti-depressant that works for you could help tremendously. Sounds like you realize how addictive the sub can become, but the stressing and worrying about the w/d's only make them harder. Try to be as positive as you can about recovery and deal with the underlying issues that bother you. I wish you all the best, let us know how things go, take care.

Im just confused, if i go off of the meds after a week..will i go through withdrawls? The last time i used the sub for 4 or 5 days and i didnt expierence anything..Maybe i just thought i wasnt ? I went to the subs cause i dont have a week to be sick right now..In about a week ill be really busy everyday so im hoping that keeps my mind off things after i go off. I also have a history of depression..I was thinking inquiring about a long term anti depressant, you think this will help? I feel like i use when im lonely an depressed

Don't fret friend!  Sounds like you got a great doctor.  I was on subs for a year before I finally quit about 130 days ago.  Yes it was and to some extent still is hell.  But I am exponentially better than I was the first two months!!!!  All I can say is get off of subs as soon as possible.  I don't think 15 days is too long.  But start weening down to 4 mgs a day as quickly as you can (speak to your doctor)  then go to 2mgs.  Break the pill in half.  Then get to a crumb in the am and a crumb in pm  After a fews days of less than one mg per day,....JUMP!  Do some research on this site.  You will find lots of stuff to help with the withdrawals.  But for me, vigorous exercise kept me sane and made me feel somewhat normal.

I'm telling you, Subs can be a powerful and effective tool for opiate addiction issues.  But it presents a whole set of other problems.  Many people have a rough time with Subs when they try to quit.

BUT PLEASE, I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  DISCUSS THESE THINGS WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN.  IT SOUNDS LIKE HE OR SHE REALLY KNOWS THEIR STUFF!
