My doctors knows I'm tapering...the problem is I train horses and am very often hurt or get thrown off.  So although he knows how much I want to be done, in conversation the other day I mentioed my very rough and battered day at work and he said, well that's ok we can go back up to 7 a day for this week if you want no sense being in pain.  I understand the offer and the thought, and I told him honestly, as much as I'd like that...I don't think that's a good idea...I've come so far.  And he agreed, but added...you will eventually get off these, just don't torture yourself in the meantime thinking you can't move back up a bit for a serious back injury.

It's like walking on the edge of a razor...

Thanks for the stories.  Yes, I've read several of Gnarly's taper advice/stories.  He's great.

I couldn't handle the slow taper mentioned above. Each I was lower than normal I didn't feel good. It was slight but weeks of that wore me down. It can be done but you really have to want to be clean because once the struggle starts you have to be strong to continue the process.
For me my thought was taper just to get down then jump off. Sounded good until I jumped. I was on too high dose of oxy to handle it.
I started looking for a better dr and found one. Really good one.
But are you using a dr or doing alone? See a dr if not, we all need help with this
Good luck.
Gnarly can also talk to the taper. He is real good

Hi there!  I can give you some hope...

I was addicted to barbiturates for many years, taking upward of 20 plus per day. I was VERY familiar with the withdrawal from those pills so I would never attempt it!  Finally, I had to and I HAD to taper being the drug was a barb.

I tapered over many, many months. I can't tell you exactly how I did this (per forum guidelines) but I can tell you that I cut out very small amounts, very slowly, over a long period of time.  My withdrawal symptoms were minimal, I promise you. When it came time to just stop completely, I was fine physically. Mentally, I had a few things to work on!  LOL!  Aftercare finally did the trick for me. I was doing a lot of different things already and it helped but I really needed to see an addictionologist.

I know you're tapering opiates ( I think! ) but it should be the same. The secret is to go slowly...and keep your doctor involved if you're comfortable doing that...
