Help! I want to quit taking codeine again!! 2nd try

I quit before with a taper, and then cold Turkey was clean for about 4mths, then had some huge stress and personal issues that I couldn't handle and started all over using again.  Now the last time I told my fiance at the time (now husband) now I just want to quit cold turkey, I don't want to tell him as I'm ashamed and I'm afraid of what might happen I really just feel like I can do this on my own, and want to, however this time I can't afford to take a week off of work.  I was thinking of of going to the dr and asking about getting something from him to help with withdrawls and sleeping as I have to be able to function.  but my experience with dr's in the past has not been good, they have always blown me off like it's not real addiction because it's only Tylenol # 1 with codeine..Just want some opinions..I feel like if the dr can give me something for the anxiety and sleeping just enough for 10 days so I don't miss work I know I can do this, I just need help.

Hi again,

so I tried to go to the doctor's as a walk in, I even tried 2 different ones couldn't get in today, but I managed to get an appt for Wed, I'm so determined to get help..and I have been playing it over and over in my head what I will say to him..If I have to beg I will beg.  I just want a little help getting through this I know most of it is up to me.  So at least I can start here, and with my doctor.  I know I can do this, and I know I can do it without telling anyone!

Again I hope he just listens and takes me serious and helps me..all I'm going to do is ask if he can give me something for my nerves/anxiety for during the day so I can still work, and something to help me sleep at night, and to just give me enough for 2 weeks.  I know that it shouldn't be a problem to do that since it's not like I can just go to any walk in and get a prescription for what ever he prescribes, I mean the walk in clinic's around here all advertise that they do not prescribe that sort of thing, so usually the only doctor you can get any of that from is your family doctor.

Anyways thanks for listening, I'm just rambling on now, but it feels good to talk about it again, and I feel like this is getting me pumped up to quit.

Ready to quit!!!!

Oh dear...I read that totally backwards!  I'm sorry...

Just be honest with the doctor. It's all you can do. I'm glad you're going today; ask him how to taper off.

Listen...Addiction is addiction. It's all bad and very, very hard to overcome. It's sad to me that you weren't listened to. Tylenol#1 may have less drug per tablet but if you're taking
30 a day it's serious.

Good for you for trying to get some help! Stick around here. There are some wonderful people on the forum!

Hi Vicki595

thanks for your response..I am going to the doctor.  And I do think I have a real addiction.  What I was saying is in the past when I spoke to Doctors to try and get help THEY treated me like it WASN'T.  I know it is and that's why I want help!!  I'm just afraid I will get the same response from the Doctor, I going to go to a new Doctor today and see if they will take me serious and help me with this Horrible Addiction that I have.

Thanks for

Cath~~  Talk to the doctor about all of this. There are several meds he/she can prescribe.
You should go in anyway to get some blood work done(liver enzymes).

Good luck with this!  You could probably go cold turkey...I see you don't think of yourself
as having a "real addiction".  That's okay but what would you call it?  No need to answer
just think it over...

Keep posting!!
