Surrendering now

I guess each person is different.  I've struggled with opiate addiction for many years.  Able to get off heroin using Suboxone which was very effective.  Now I'm weaning off pain pills and feel pretty chemically imbalanced, also going thru menopause and other health issues.  Got advice from a friend who was a chemical dependency counselor which is helping alot.  I've decided to wean off these buggers and accept that this is where I am.  Taking vitamins, tiny bits of Ativan for anxiety, Lemon juice in water to detox the liver.  Does anybody know what supplement could help rebalance the brain chemistry after opiate dependence?  The research suggests that the brain can mend with the right support.  My naturpath says that most addictions are chemical imbalances in the body that once rectified will stop cravings because most people don't want to be addicts but are self-medicating.  I believe this.  Any comments or suggestions?.  I feel pretty wierd, but weaned down to 2 Vics a day, otherwise unable to function. Thanks to all the brave souls who post here to help others!  Bless your hearts!

Hi Brightside, fish oil and L-tyrosine are brain supplements.  here I pulled this from wikipedia:

Medical use
Tyrosine is a precursor to neurotransmitters and increases plasma neurotransmitter levels (particularly dopamine and norepinephrine)[8] but has little if any effect on mood.[9][10][11] The effect on mood is more noticeable in humans subjected to stressful conditions (see below).

A number of studies have found tyrosine to be useful during conditions of stress, cold, fatigue,[12] loss of a loved one such as in death or divorce, prolonged work and sleep deprivation,[13][14] with reductions in stress hormone levels,[15] reductions in stress-induced weight loss seen in animal trials,[12] improvements in cognitive and physical performance[10][16][17] seen in human trials. Because tyrosine hydroxylase is the rate limiting enzyme, however, effects are less significant than those of l-dopa.

Tyrosine does not seem to have any significant effect on mood, cognitive or physical performance in normal circumstances.[18][19][20] A daily dosage for a clinical test supported in the literature is about 100 mg/kg for an adult which amounts to about 6.8 Grams at 150 lbs.[21] The usual dosage amounts to 500-1500 mg per day (dose suggested by most manufacturers; usually an equivalent to 1-3 capsules of pure tyrosine). It is not recommended to exceed 12000 mg (12 g) per day. In fact, too high doses result in reduced levels of dopamine.[18] Tyrosine may decrease the absorption of other amino acids in high or chronic doses. It decreases absorption of l-dopa.

Atta girl!!

Very proud of you!
There are a few herbal products which can help. I can't recall the names of them but you could ask at a health food store.
When hubby came off of crack he used them and lots of vitamins to keep his strength up.
I wish you luck with your endeavor.
I know you will succeed.
