Tramadol Tapering

I have chronic pain and am taking tramadol and morphine sulfate. I hurt myself in July 2005. I was given the ultram maybe, 11/06. I just read where someone felt less pain off of the drug. I believe it. I remember doing more walking before the ultram, even though there was pain. My husband got sick and I had to do more and had even more pain and was gives the morphine sulfate and was ok for awhile, but I think I just have to accept this is cp and mixing drugs is not fun. I was an exercise nut my whole life and hurt myself but I think the tramadol is playing with my emotions, I have never been this unhappy. Yes, I do have lots to be down about but I think it's time to stop. I stopped the morphine easy and restarted it but the tramadol I heard is much harder. Besides the recipe, any ideas for tapering?
Yesterday, I took 75mg in the am and 100 at night. I was taking 300-400 not long ago and there was no problem going down. Any advice would be helpful.  Thanks

The doctor's suggestion is the same as yours. 25mg ev 3-4 days is one pill a week.
One pill is 50 mg., so it's the same thing. I just woke up, but it still makes sense.

no disrespect to the "doctor " but people who have not gone threw tramadol wd don't understand it is unique .I believe because its a dual wd of antidepressant and pain pill. I strongly suggest you do one pill a week .We have had so many successful taper this way .

yup drop one pill every week if it starts getting really uncomfortable you can even do a half a week .you are welcome to write me whenever you would like .

The professional doctor here said taper about 25 mg every 3-4 days or so. He said my dosage wasn't that high.  I'm taking 4 pills a day, and was at one time up to 6. I have been on it about 2 years and figure it shouldn't be too bad. I'm watching my husband do it and he isn't bad, nothing like some threads I've read, but I don't even want to think about that.

I've weaned off other prescriptions before, I know I can do it, it's the threads that left such a bad impression. I have someone in front of me not experiencing what I read. But I think that's how it always is, the people that don't have it so bad, don't go on boards or just don't post.

Avisg, are you saying one pill in one shot? I would be off in a month. The part about being in less pain, has me real excited. I heard that before. I hope it's ok, I'd like to write you.

You can always talk to a Pyscho-pharmacologist, pharmacist, or Detox Psychiatrist via telephone and get some immediate answers or ideas.  I took Tramadol 13 yrs ago night and had a bad reaction for days where I could not get out of bad, took days to recover, never took it again.  It was given for Postpartum depression along with Prozac, Tramadol was to sleep the doctor said.  The doctors who have been prescribing and renewing our addictive meds are usually in denial about it and not willing to help.

I thought I would try doing 1/2 pill less in the evening. Wasn't a good idea. I felt the difference. I guess there are no ways to taper than to taper with what you are comfortable with, and the doctor on here gave me an idea. Going down from 3 to 1 1/2 in the am is still making me feel uptight(it was too much) and I wonder how long this will last but I do not want to go back up and want to stay on this till I'm more comfortable. I have no idea when then will be. That's why I would love to hear from someone who tapered and how long it took and how they did it.
I appreciate your responses, all responses are welcomed. When I read that someone had less pain being off of it, that motivated me that after 2 yrs., it's time to quit.

if you can deal with the emotions then keep reducing the tramadol.
i couldnt after 3 weeks and now use fluoxetine to help with the chemical imbalance.
ive only been on the fluoxetine for 3 days but i think its helping as my body had completely crashed!
im not out of the water yet but im confident in time i will be ok again!
cold turkey is not fun! i was so sick ive lost 16lbs! still having trouble eating. once you replace the chemicals needed to make you feel good about your self. you'll be fine.
fluoxetine is a very mild anti depressent and is easy to come off if you wean off slowly. unlike tramadol. ive read so many cases exactly the same as us
hope this helps

I c/t so I dont have advice on tapering but someone will come along here and give you advice on it. My pain is constant migraine like headaches and neck pain from a head injury so I do believe the hydros made my pain worse with rebound headaches also. If you are ready to stop using the meds you can do it. Many people hear have great ideas on the w/d's. Can you discuss it with your Dr. and get his opinion on tapering?
