W/D please help hydrocodone

My friend has been using hydrocodone for 3 yrs now. He was up too 80 plus mg a day . He has been trying to quit. His friend gave him 5mg methadones to help with withdraws, and he decided to go for it. This is his 3rd day on methadone tapering down 20-15-10 mg he still has one 5mg methadone left. I say he should flush the last one since he is past the worst hydro w/D days.Is this safe or should he take the last one tommorow?

Okay...they're both opiates with Methadone being the stronger one. He's only going to continue to have withdrawal during those two weeks if he does the lowered doses. Why would he want that torture?   It's something like this:  pull the bandaid off s l o w l y or rip it off!

If he takes a 5mg hydro,he'll feel better for 5 mins. What's the sense?  He needs to commit to getting off the pills, not keep looking for a way to avoid withdrawal. There's no avoiding it.

so wouldnt it be better to take the hydrocodone for ab 2 weeks low doses so he can go through the hydrocodone withdrawal  and not the methadone? what if he takes a 5mg hydrocodone  would that start the withdrawal  process over?

he is going to go through the wds no matter what, so just do it, I had a rough 8 days, but I am 25 days clean, and sleep still eludes me, except night before last, last night couple of hours, but I can tell you it is worth it. just do it, and we will all start living a good life. I have to have faith or I couldn't of done this, not only did I get off Vicoden but also a Anitdepresent at the same time. glad I did it,

Well I believe he is going to go through methadone withdrawals. But given the short time frame (only 5 days removed from hydro), not sure how the body is going to react. It could get crazy.

I went cold turkey last Sunday. Today is Day 9 free of Vicodin. And I feel better than ever. No w/d symptoms since last Wed-ish. If he can make it through the first 3-4 days he's all set. Sleep is most trying time, IMO.  Best wishes!

with the 3 days of methadone would my friend even detox off the methadone or would the withdrawal still be from hydrocodone? if so wouldnt it be better for him to just keep taking hydrocodone at low doses until his body has forgot ab the methadone ? basically if he flushes the methadone he has left and quits takin it today would he experience a withdrawal from the methadone?

HI I agree with Vicki methadone was never designed to be a '''get out of jail free card'' it is supose to be used as part of a program to put your addiction on hold to give you time to put your life back together ....im an x/methadone junkie and can tell you this....run the other way when someone offers it to you the detox is miserable...im afraid your friend is just going to have to tuff it out look to the lower right hand side of this page and look up the thomas recipe it will give you a few things that will make this a bit ezer keep reading the posts and post often for support good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

I agree. Flush it and move forward. All the Methadone is doing is postoning the withdrawal
which will,in fact, arrive in a day or so.  Methadone is a very strong opiate...

Keep posting and read other posts here. Also, read the health pages, upper right.

Good luck!
