W/D with tramadol, is this wise?

do you think using tramadol to help with W/D from hydo's (10 a day 10/325's) is a wise thing to do, if  taking the tramadol as perscribed?  Doctor said only to use the tramadol for 4 days, but it will ease the w/d's

ditto ditto to what everyone else said!! dont take them! and yes I think 4 days would be a bad idea, even IF you didnt suffer a problem from the trams themselves- you are playing with fire. What if you end up LIKING them? and cant quit THOSE then? then you get hooked on yet another pill and as youve already read, the WD's are just as bad/if not worse/longer than the regular opiates.  Also, why prolong the inevitable? youre going to have to WD no matter what, so why delay it? Git-R-Done =)   good luck to you. you CAN do this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that it's not a good idea. There are many people here who have been addicted to Ultram (Tramadol) and from what I understand the withdrawals from this medication is really horrible.  I would say you would be substituting one for another.  So, probably the best thing to do is to taper down or go cold turkey.  I know it's scary, but I was addicted to hydros as well and it's so WORTH just stopping, especially since most of us are unable to taper - if the pills are there we'll just take them!  Good luck!

Prayers,
Janet

taking the ultrams is not a good idea.  it will prolong the w/ds cuz you are putting another ned in your body.  you can do this, but gotta do it the right way.

i have tried using ultram to detox off short acting opiates like your hydro's but then i developed a dependency to the ultram and believe me when i say this because i have detoxed off both hydros and ultram
hydros take 3 to 7 days.....ultram takes 3 to 7 weeks
ultram is a loooong with drawl
can you taper with the hydros? i am not able to be on here a whole lot these days but if you need help with a taper plan, let me know
good luck

It probably would help with the w/d's but it would be a false hope it really only delays the process and trams are the worst to withdraw from even if taking as prescribe trust me I know. Avis knows all about trams but emilypost knows alot too and I think shes around today. the best thing to do is to taper the vics do u think u could do that?

I'm not 100% sure but when my husband was going to quit his oc addiction he got some tramadol from the guy he got his oc's from. That guys doctor gave him the tramadol to help with coming off the oc he is also addicted to among other things....now my husband wasn't about to pop more pills not knowing what it would do being he was getting second hand information. I googled tramadol and the negative stuff I came up with was not good. No where did it say it would help with withdrawals and it's just as addictive in it's own way and has it's own withdrawals as well if it's abused. I did see on one page that it is not proven to help with wd's so it's a tough call. My husband ended up going ct and is now 12 days clean...we followed the thomas recipe and it seemed to help a lot. His thing that helped the most in the 3 days of hell was ativan to keep him relaxed and asleep as much as possible. The doctor prescribed those to him for that reason. I would ask about that getting something that is a relaxing/sleep aid just for 3-4 days to get through the worst of it.
