What is Subboxone, and does it work?

I have been on methadone for about 3 months now at 20mg a day.  I know to some of you that doesn't seem much but I have had other opitate issues before with percocets.  It wasn't bad until I got to 60 mg of oxy a day and a friend talked me into trying dones.  I could kill him now.  I tried to quit and by day 3 I was in the worst hell of my life.  It doesn't help that I have anxiety and take lexapro for that (10mg)., but I have just separated and am dealing with finally telling my loved ones of my secret.  It was the hardest thing I've ever done.  I have cried for 2 days non stop.  I had to go back on the done cause I couldn't deal with them seeing me like that and not knowing.  I came clean with my wife too and I know I made huge steps yesterday.   My question though, since I have not seen a doctor yet, what is subboxone and what does it do?  I have seen a lot of post on this and am just trying to figure out what it is and if it works with wd's.  Please, if anyone has info or advise of anything I wrote, please reply.  This is my cry for help.

Thank you so much.

you are on a low enoguh dose of methadone to switch over to suboxone. suboxone is a mixed opiate agonist/antagonist, comprised of two drugs buprenorphine and naloxone (inactive, if taken correctly). Its highest effective dose is 32 mgs a day. Aftter taht it ats like a full on opiate antagonist(used in opiate overdoses), that is one of the biggest differences between suboxone and 'done. You will need to go about two days, three max without methadone in order to switch over to suboxone and for it to transfer smoothly, with no wd's and releiving all the wd's youll be having. thats the most important thing you can know about starting suboxone, you need to be in moderate withdrawal from your opiate of choice, like Heroin or Oxycontin you need tow aita t elast 24 hrs. but with long acting opiates like methadone its longer. On top of the bad wd's youll already experiencing starting suboxone too early will kae it look like nothing, so definitely wait till your in true wd's. Methadone you can go higher and higher with your dose whereas suboxone generally teh lower the dose the more agonist, and treatment effective it will be for you. Youve come a long way to ge tdown to 20mgs of methadone, and suboxone is a very good emthdo to get off of treatment meds all together. youll slowly taper that and it last a little longer than methadone, with the average half life being 37 hrs. i am currently on methadone(5 mths now) and was previously on suboxone 32mgs a day for 8 motnhs, so let me know if you have any questions regarding suboxone treatment..god luck-christos

Hey Timetoquit --- welcome to the forum -- you are at the right place -- lots of help and encouragement here -- no judgmental attitudes either.  We have all been there.  I too was on Sub - there are some good posts above mine.   There is a post in the health pages (upper right of your screen) it is titled "Members experiences coming off Soboxone"  Please take a minute and read the different opinions by those who have used Sub.  I really commend you on your decision to quit --- You can do it --- yes, no one will lie to you about that but the thing is --- this road leads to life and the other one taking every day and using all your time being concerned about your next dose is just no way to live.  Please keep posting and reading --- All the best.

Take it from me, I know about suboxone. I was on it for 6 months plus. I went from a 30 percocet a day habit (way over 300 mgs a day) and decided to quit and doc gave me subs. I was in withdrawal every morning from the oxys when I woke up until I took 3. I knew I needed to quit. YOU HAVE TO BE IN MILD TO MODERATE WITHDRAWAL before you take a sub and if not, and you take a sub while NOT in withdrawal (if youre still high on percs) you will go into a HORRIBLE withdrawal. so I went 16 hours in withdrawal (doc gave me tranqs to stay calm in the meantime) Last perc was 1 in the afternoon tuesday morning (over 6 months ago). 5:30 am wed am, woke up with severe diarahea, shaking, etc. and I knew it was time for the first sub. Doc told me to put a HALF of a pill (4mgs) under my tongue, wait 30 minutes and see how I felt. I dozed for 30 minutes and when I woke up, and this is no joke whatsoever, ALL WITHDRAWALS were COMPLETELY gone. No diarahea, no nothing. I woke up my fiance and was like "I cant believe this, I feel awsome" NOT HIGH, but no WD's at all. Measly half a pill. BUT.........................You'll hear a lot about subs good and bad. Subs have an opiate in it as percocets do but simply dont give you the high and if you take percocets while on subs they wont work. Problem for me is I stayed on the subs too long, tapered to practically nothing, and when I stopped subs went into withdrawal from THEM. So if you do suboxone, taper off very quickly. VERY QUICKLY. Subs are addicting, too. But Like I stated in other posts, if youre willing to do this means you are willing to stop getting high. Buon the firstt the subs DID wipe ALL wd's away on the first dose.

I also detoxed using suboxone once. ANd I did a short term sub treatment. The longer you are on sub the worst your w.d from it will be. If you need help or if there is anyting I can do, just let me know.

HI and welcome!  We are here to help.  This is a tough call.  Ive not been on methadone but I was on suboxone for 2 years.  Ive heard many refer to suboxone as being similar to methadone.  One thing to be wary of is long term suboxone use -- I wouldnt recommend it to my worst enemy.  However it may be helpful in helping you quit methadone.  Ive heard withdrawal from methadone and suboxone can be very similar so I caution against long term sub use.. it seems the least amount of sub for the shortest amount of time is the best way to go.  I have heard from people who used it for about 10-15 days and it helped tremendously.  Do your research on it though - thats the best advice I can give you.  Knowledge is power. Suboxone is a very strong and powerful partial opiate and is extremely addicting and difficult to kick (take it from me and many others).. however it can also be a very useful tool in detox.  It should be used with caution, under a doctors care (also be wary of doctors recommending long term use).  There is a member on here who has detoxed off both methadone and suboxone in his life and Ill reacch out to him and ask him to respond to this post.  On the right side of the screen you will see "health pages" click on that and look up members experiences with suboxone to give yourself a better idea of what your dealing with.  Its a huge step to want to be off methadone and I commend you and congratulate you and we are all here to support you! Lots of people here who will offer truth and support.   Use this site as often as you need to.  Best of luck to you!
