What is needed for my pain... Any help is appreciated!

Ok so i was just got a mri and it come out showing 2 bulged discs and got diagnosed with degenerate joint disease and i looked at the x-ray today with my doctor. He come to the conclusion that my back is like a 69 year old mans back and 4 of my discs and so squished they have created a sharp point which is jabbing my nerve canal. The part where the nerves run up your spine. I have significant cell and nerve damage and i am in a lot of pain. I have many spazms probrably 8 hours out of every day, and go throw lots of tingling sensations and pain down my leg and in my whole entire back i get about 3 hrs of sleep per night due to the pain. I excersise lightly 3 times a day and was put on ultram and robaxin 750mg. Yet nothing is helping and dont know how to approach my doctor for more help with the pain please.. ANYONE?

I have tried a few things and do physical theropy 5 times a week 3 hrs a day of your basic on back stretches and standing up stretches i cant do anymore than that or i will strain it. My main problem is when i take this robaxin it does nothing at all i take a oc 40 the pain is eliminated i dont get drowzy or nothing. Just pain free and feeling 10 times better yet even though it takes the pain away i still know my limits. Yet i cant just go in and ask for it they barely like giving this stuff out i got now.

Go to physical therapy, get steroid injections, try the lidocain patches, use muscle relaxers, buy the book Healing Back Pain by Doctor John Sarno
Stop taking the Ultram. If you start taking opiate pain killers, you will come back to this site in two years looking for the Thomas Recipe.

Sounds like my x-ray...my spine looks like a rickety ladder..i did my fair share of pain meds...but they never really helped the pain very much...made me not care as much that i was hurting..also eneded up addicted...my pain is chronic...i am 48 and began at age 26...narcotics were not the answer for me....chiropractic, ice, heat, yoga, massage and steroid injections to the affected area is what i have come to terms with...my steroid injections are every 4 months...due this friday...and does help...narcotics are not the best choice for long term pain management

AntB19 mentioned the machine that stretches you.I did one called VAX-D and it helped quite a bit with the radiating pain down my legs.Unfortunately it did not help with my central pain & why I'm here today:(

If what he has you on is not working ........tell him that.  Ask if there is anything else that you can try.............

try the local injections I tried but they won't do em since I have steel rods in my spine where the break occurred. They are supposed to be good for your pain.

I'm no expert but I agree you should go to a pain management clinic.  I've read about a machine (a table) that you lay on that gently stretches you,  and lets the discs gradually slip back into position.  According to what I've read, it works for about 85% of back pain sufferers.  Maybe it would help you.

I agree it sounds serious. Too serious for something as weak and destructive as ultram. If you can manage on narcotics and you really hurt, you should take them.

topamax you need a med thst deals with nerve issues not a narcotic Treatment for this and what type of exercises are you doing? don't jump to the conculsion that a narcotic is going to help your pain before looking at all options that are out there the shots, P.T., core muscle exercises to strengthen your core abominal muscles to take the strain off the Erector spinia muscle the one that is spasming in your back. get to the root of the problem not just cover it up. go to my pictures there is one in there that will show you the core muscle exercises that you should be doing. look up on how to do nerve gluiding stretches all of this helps what is going on in your back.

I would have your doctor set you up with a appointment to a pain management clinic. There are other things that may help such as physical therapy, epidural steroid shots, and many other things that might help. I also have pain shooting down my leg. I had back surgery but now have scar tissue hitting my sciatic nerve. A pain management clinic should be able to help. Best of luck to you.

You should be open with your doctor. He cant help if he doesnt know whats going on. I too have nerve pain ans Lyrica helps me a great deal with this. The dr shouldnt think anything bad of you if you are open and honest with him.Thats their job   :)
