When will this terrible feeling stop?

Hi..  I have had really bad back pain for years.  About a year ago it worsened with sciatica.  the pain became unbearbale.  I had a dr friend prescribe me Oxycodone/ roxicet 30mg.  My tolerance built and I ended up taking up to 10 a day for pain.  I never liked taking them and only did for pain, not to get high.  I decided to stop because of my tolerance.  It has been 53 hours now and I feel terrible.  I wasn't able to work yesterday and am barely making it today.  Can't sleep at all, feel like vomitting all day, feel very weak, congested really bad, etc, etc,... so how long before it ends?  Thank you

I can't believe it but we did it!!!  Congrats to you.  It really was hell and I can see how A LOT of people would give in.  I am done with physical pain and symptoms but couldn't sleep again last night.  It ***** being so dead tired all day but I am so relieved that this nightmare is over.  I'm sure in a few weeks time we'll both be back to normal and feeling great.  I already feel so much better.. Like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  Thanks again for the support and no matter what stay strong.

Came in to check on you! I'm so jealous you got sleep, haha! I'm on day 6 free from oxy & day 5 free of norco. I got about 2 hours of broken sleep last night, but it was NOT enough, haha! My dr told me to try taking a benedryl so I'm waiting to see if it will knock me out. All my withdrawals are gone except the insomnia. Can u believe WE made it?! Gosh, I feel like I'm born again (even tho I'm severely exhausted ha!)

just over 80 hours and today I feel much better.  Still feel terrible but nowhere near how bad it was just yesterday.  Finally got some sleep last night, about 5 hours with tylenol PM.  I am hoping that today will be the last day of the physical stuff but either way the worst is over for me.  I made it.  Thanks to everyone for the support. The comments here really really helped.

hi, thanks for the reply.  Of course I came to enjoy the feeling of the pills and couldn't even get out of bed without taking 2 30mgs but I really was taking them for back pain which I still have.  I got so used to taking them that the effect really wasn't there anymore and I had to take them just to function.  Congrats on your success.. keep it up.  I feel a bit better today78.5 hours since last dose of 2.5 30 mgs.  I hope the worst is behind me.  It has been pure hell

Hey daytrader...i too was addicted to oxycontin. And oxy ir 30mgs for a very long time. Try over three years of abuse. I find it hard to believe you didn't get high or like the feeling the oxy gave you. I mean no disrespect by that statement. But only say that because your intake was high. Only you know the answer to that. And again Im not judging or trying to make you feel bad. Its my opinion the oxy is a different beast than loratabs or hydrocodone or the other ones. Just like methane is different than oxy. Or opana is different than oxy.

I have fought so hard to stop my oxycontin. When i first stopped the first week i was so so so sick. I couldn't eat. Sleep think. I shook like a heroin addict waiting for their next fix. I threw up everything. I didn't sleep for weeks. My pain shot up threw the roof. The rebound pain is something else, as your seeing.

Now for the positive... My pain diminished down to hardly nothing. Took some time tho. I find patience is key with this. Patience patience and more patience. Around three weeks off all my meds the pain suddenly let up. Can't explain why it took so long. As for the sleep. Same thing.

The higher our use as far as mgs. The harder the detox. Also the length of use determines Alot.

Depression may follow along with no energy as you progress off the meds. I have found b12 complex a lifesaver for energy as well as anti depressant a mood stablizer.

This a mental as well as a physical detox. We didn't get our bodies dependent on the meds in a week. So we can't expect to get well in a week. There are markers of progress along the way. 30 days 60 and 90 then 6 moths a year. I am at the 60 mark. It does improve Alot in 2 weeks as far as the detox sickness. But 30 days is a huge turning point and sixty days is more.

Like anything else this is a lifestyle change. Diet and exercise is crucial. And determination and attitude sets the pace. Hope this helps resolve some of your anxiety. And gives you some insight on what to look forward too.

Wishing you much success....bama

Day,  it is going to get worse before it gets better.  It takes about 4 or 5 days and then sleep does not come sometimes until day 8 or 9. I am so sorry you are going through this, but believe me I remember how I felt like I was dying.  You will get through it.....

I never realized until now just how much I was taking. 30mg up to 10 times a day.  I am lucky that i never liked the feeling of pills and don't have any craving.  Never took to get high but only for pain.  Thanks to everyone for all the support.  I will beat this.

Good morning! Hope your sleep is coming back a little. I have to say , I took ambien day and night thru w/d and it backfired on me. When I stopped 13 days later I felt full blown w/d from either the ambien or hydros. In any case for what it is worth, I would do ambien just at night. The day time thing just prolonged my detox. Sending you positive energy and lots of prayers!

Also Trader, if you have sick time, take tomorrow off because it will be bad....that way you can recoup over the weekend.  If you can, take the ambien during the day too in order to catch up on your sleep if you are off work.

OMG I know.  I cannot function without sleep.  I was lucky that I took my last pill on Christmas Day and I was off until Jan. 4 so did not have to worry about work.  Day 3 is hell, I will not lie to you.  Just dig deep and fight through it.  You did not become an addict in a day so you cant become sober in a day either.

Wishing you sweet dreams tonight!

Day,

I had ambien too and was the same as you.  I am not be any means telling you what to do, but I will tell you what helped me.  I started taking 1 1/2 ambien.  I asked the doctor prior to doing it and he said it would be fine.  Just a suggestion........I remember the depression and sadness.  I also remember about 2 weeks ago the overwhelming happiness I started feeling and it was a natural high!   I was able to quit taking my anti depressant because the pills were what was messing with my brain.

I also have insomnia and with ambien can only stay asleep for 2 or three hours at night.  My body is aching but I guess that is just the price I have to pay for letting things get this far along.  Congatulations to you too for getting as far as you have and thank you so much for saying you believe in me.. It means so much

Hi I was also taking 8-10 norco a day plus 80 mg of oxycontin. I'm on my 4th day clean from oxy & 3rd day clean from norco. Its seems that I've been different from everyong bc my 1st & 2nd days were the toughest. I'm still pretty weak & tired today but I feel tons better. No withdrawal symptoms except insomnia & weakness from not eating or getting out of bed. I had my first meal last night & I ate this morning & I think it helped a lot. I'm so glad I went thru the pain to live a pill free life. You will be so glad too once the worst passes! I believe in u!

First let me say the first 48-72 hours is the hardest and you have made it this far so don't give up! Be proud of yourself for making it as far as you have that is a huge accomplishment! Keep the faith and keep pushing through!

I think good ole motion or alive works wonders for pain now. And lidoderm patches really work now. It took my body awhile to reset its pain perception. I still have back aches. And also use a compounded cream i get from.my ortho. Sleep takes awhile to reset too. Try melatonin its over the counter at any place that sells vitamins. Take it when the sun goes down. Or around 7-8. It helps promote sleep naturally. Another thing to consider is an anti depressant . I take one and after two weeks or so i feel less moody. It helps put back seratonin in our brains. Aftercare is also recommended.

Thanks for the advice.  i have tried many other forms of therapy including chiropractic, cortisone injections, and lastly electro trigger point therapy with injections.  The last has actually helped reduce the pain tremendously.  I am relieved of most lower back pain but still suffer from the sciatica.  I walk with a bit of a limp when I baby it.  I try not to think of it too much.  I stopped taking the meds before really reading up on it and figured since I have already come this far cold turkey there is no sense in turning back now.  Thank you again.

Like mentioned above, about 5 days or so for the worst of it. Day 5 was the turning point for me and was much easier physically from then on out. The sleeplessness tends to hold on for a little bit longer.

I too started taking pain meds for a bad back and sciatica due to an injury. Two surgeries later and still suffer from pain. The best advice I can give is to treat the cause and not mask it with pain pills. If you're anything like me you will have to deal with it for a long time to come and you don't want to get hooked on narcotic pain meds. Schedule an appointment with an Orthopedic Surgeon and have him write you a script for physical therapy. I would also recommend the epidural steroid injections. There are pain clinics that specialize in non narcotic ways to treat and manage pain.

There are many non narcotic pain medications that work wonders. If one doesn't work, try another.

When stopping pain meds we normally experience rebound pain. It's our brains way of trying to give it what it wants and that's a pill. Our brain stops producing seratonin (feel good chemical) when we are taking opiates. It thinks it is overproducing it because of the pills provide an artificial form of it. Once we stop the pills it takes our brain awhile to realize it needs to produce it again. It's in shock and this is what causes withdrawal.

Give it a good month before you even consider taking another pill. It will give you a chance to reevaluate your pain and see how bad it really is. When we are on pain meds our pain tolerance drops so we tend to think we are always in extreme pain. I honestly think you should really check into the others ways to manage it though.

Hang in there. The withdrawals will pass. It's a rough ride but you can make it.

Best of luck.

Brian

thank you for your answer.. I'm glad to hear that it will end soon. I also appreciate the advise.  I will keep my condition posted. I agree that this stuff, though helpful, really is poison.

Hi,

Sorry you are going through this.  I TOTALLY get it.  I am 24 days clean from about 10 to 12 Norco per day.  You are going to feel the physical part for about 5 days.  Get some Imodiam for the stomach issues.  It is your body getting rid of what I call poison.  When you are able to eat, get some bananas and buy drinks high in protein.  At about day 14 you should really start feeling good again.  Keep posting, this website was my savior!  Good luck, I promise you it does get better.
