anyone ever stop methadone cold turkey

Ive been a heroine user for 18 years. 14 months ago I started taking methadone, 80mg a day. Now Im at the point that I dont want to use any substance ever again. Im just so sick of the whole thing. I would rather go through the pain for a couple of days then drink, shoot, or smoke anything ever again.
Has anyone ever quit meth cold turkey. How was it. How sick did you get. How many days did the hell last. Am I crazy to even do this. Please if anyone has any answers for me good or bad post please. Thank you

I guess eveyone's different. Having used this long, you undoubtedly come up against withdrawals and have felt what it's going to be like. That's kinda what it's like. I don't know if it's safe to even try it? Are you out or out of access? I'd try to get a doctor to help me. What's your health like, this is going to be a super shock to your system. I was in pain management and was using done 80mg, 2x, but they moved me over to oxy, which I'm tapering from. Others swear by or at suboxone, and taper that, or taper the methadone. It won't be easy, but it is doable. Hopefully other's with more knowledge of methadone will be on and can give you better insight. This is a great place to scroll down thru the older posts and see how it's been for other's. Stick around and get thru this, good luck!

Hi---Are you thinking about stopping now at 80mg?  That's way too high a dose. Yes,there are quite a few members here who have gone CT from Methadone but they tapered way down first.   We don't give taper advice on the forum. It's just too dangerous for you!

The clinic may help you,I'm not sure.  Those folks should help anyone who wants to stop.

Good luck!

Hi vee - and welcome!  I just wanted to reply to your post so it would make it's way to the top of the line!  And congrats to you for wanting to quit.  Life really is SO much better without drugs and you'll find that out soon!  I felt the same way when I quit - it just became so exhausting keeping up with getting the pills, counting pills, calling Dr.'s and pharmacies, the whole thing became TOO much!  So I totally understand that feeling.

I wish I could offer more specific advice, but I don't have any experience with methadone (my DOC was tramadol and xanax).  But many members here do so just be patient I'm sure someone will reply to you soon.  It has been a little quiet here tonight, so just hang on - someone will help you soon!  This place is great for support, so again, welcome!  :)
