Relapse & The Pit of Vipers

Not forgetting the pain of being crushed by addiction is a huge key to avoiding relapse. We who have overcome using dope must be on guard at all times. We must be ready to use all tools that God has given us. Thank God for this site!!God gives us the strength to not use but He does not make all our decisions. A loving God allows us free-will to do things. That is where my problem lies. If my mind tells me its ok to take pills I am going crazy.

Let me tell you a little story:

I heard a story/legend that in midevil times when someone in the villiage went crazy they would lower them into a large pit full of vipers very slowly. The person usually found a way to return to reality pretty quickly to communicate with the men lowering them. They would hold them there until they returned to a normal state of mind.

My addiction is that pit of vipers.

Seeing the people that keep coming in hurting are my visual of being back in the pit. If my mind tries to trick me again that I can use I am definitely going crazy. I need to see the pit to bring me back to reality.

Its the same principle of a recovering addict helping a practicing addict to stop. When a recovering addict does a 12 step call they see the fear and desperation of the pit of vipers up close and personal. It's a very good reminder to stay clean at all costs.

May all have a blessed and day,

Dafishman

You aren't going fishing without me pal.  How bout I leave Michigan next week drive to Illinois to pick you up and head up to Minnesota for a few days then down to Texas for a few days.  I could use a cooler full of fresh fish!
