I just wanted to say THANKYOU for sharing your very personal story,it tkes alot of courage to be so open and honest your story really thouched me. You are right about 'choices" and sometimes when we decide to FINALLY make the right choice it's to late....
long term treatment offers many things...especially for someone in your shoes. of course, the longer you are without meth...the better. what is also offers is the chance for you to LEARN to LIVE clean and sober.
too many times...an addict will get clean from one drug...only to substitute with another. is one better than the other? addiction is addiction...regardless of what your drug of choice is.
because of meth...my son made MANY bad choices for his life. because of those choices...my son had unprotected sex. because of those choices...my son now has hiv. he no longer has that choice.
i hope that you are at least still reading on the forum...and i hope that you understand that YOU still have a choice...it's called sobriety.
i was hooked on it I.V.route for a lil over 5 years. You can quit. It is much ( not all ) mentall, you not only become addicted to to drug but also the life and in my case the needle as well. So in order to quit you MUST change you life around. If you really wnna quit you must relize its not just about putting down the drug but also changing scenes, enviroments or whatever. After usin for over 5 years , once i hit bottom , i just quit, just like that. I mean i had lost everything, i had no option but to quit. Really besides cravings, sleeping 23 hours a day for 2 weeks, and having insanly vivid using dreams to were i would actually wake up feeling high, my w/ds were not to bad You can doo it
admittedly, I dont know anything about crystal meth. Never did it nor knew anyone who has used it so Im unfamiliar with its effects and WDs. It sounds like its pretty nasty to get off of though. Im glad Lizzie could give you some introspect on it since she is painfully aware of its destruction. I hope you can get into treatment somewhere soon. 10 years is a horribly long time to suffer addiction to something so damaging. Good luck to you and stick around here, lots of support for you.
i have a son who has been addicted to crystal meth for a little longer than you have been. i have seen, first hand what this drug can do. i also know how hard it is to remain clean. you need in patient rehab...long term.
if i were addicted to crystal meth and WANTED to stop the insanity...i would do "whatever it takes" to make that happen. if i couldnt afford treatment...i would sell every possession i had, down to the shoes on my feet. teen challenge is a treatment center that i think is pretty much free...i think it is based on what you can pay. teen challenge also has programs for adults. your local rescue groups sometimes also have programs. there ARE private rehab centers that offer scholarships too. it takes a little work to make it happen.
if there is a will..there is a way. "mr. clean and sober" isnt going to just knock on your door one morning...you have to want it and make it happen.
