YOUR BRAIN ON DRUGS/ METHADONE TREATMENT

I watched this addiction thing on HBO today. It was about 20 mintues long. The just of the whole thing was replacement treatment. Using you guessed it, Methadone.. As well as Sub. But like they said, They only have a few years of studys from the sub. So most of the information was based on methadone, Now I have taken methadone. So I was pretty shocked to here what they had to say. They were saying in order for the treatment to be a sucess. You have to be on it 2 years. Yes 2 years. If you do that. and come off with the help of the doctor. Your rate of sucess is 70%. 10% will have to be on it the rest of there lives. They never mention the hell to come off of methadone. For my self 5 months like to killed me. I could not even think of being on it 2 years. I taped this show, or whatever it was. So if there is anything I am missing or you want to know. I can alway watch it again. They were taking about people using oxy, heroin, morphin, and rx pills. They did say that street herion did less long term damage, than snorting oxy or any other rx pill. Because the rx has been changed to work fast on different parts of the brain. Even when taking as the rx says to. This is with long term use. over one year. I couldn't believe it..... I did learn alot

I saw that too.  One of the things they said that concerned me was that after long term use of opiate it can take up to 2 year for your brain to recover.  I have been on low dose hydro for several years and i am trying my best to ween myself off of them.  We have a long weekend coming up and I told my wife I was going to try to stop this weekend and that maybe by Tuesday i would be feeling ok.  She said she would rather me just take them and not go through the pain i have with my back.

You would think that at 2 to 3 a day it would not be a big deal to stop but it is for me, because of the pain.  I know these pill start to mask the pain and that is what scares me.  Do you think if I start today with only 2 and then none tomorrow will i be through the worse part by Monday?

lady, my daughter used methadone as 'replacement therapy' , and was also on it for only about 5 months. She said the withdrawals were a hell she wouldn't wish on her worst enemy. Today, she is more than 2 years clean. She said she stays clean by staying busy, and she certainly seems to have her hands full right now. She is a full-time college student and also works 40 hours per week, and is a single mother of an 11 year old daughter. She was just named to the Dean's List for the Spring Semester after having also been on the Fall 2007 List. She is determined that drugs will never control her life again as it did for so many years (she used Oxycontin). She lost her business and her marriage (her husband was also addicted) due to her use, but she set her mind on recovery, and so far, she is doing wonderfully. Can you tell I'm a proud mama?? LOL

Hi Lady, methadone is used as a replacement drug.I am on methadone at 70mgs a day as i am having hip-resurfacing on june 4th in a couple of weeks.Im 49 and have been on percocets mostly since 1990 as a result of a workplace accident.I agree that meth takes time to detox from, but we must understand and come to terms that we must come off without trouble by going slow,as the body and brain need time to adjust as there is a very0long half life.A lot of our fellow forum users have a beef with meth,I have been on and off,in the past and did not have that much of a problem. The major problem is when we are on for long periods of time,a decade or more.Goodluck with the Sub-Recovery John
