If i take up to 4 vicodin a day, would it be okay to try a methadone pill?

If you go cold turkey it's done,over,finis~Tapering can be a bit tough because we're addicts and you need a lot of self control. You should,I think,try to stop. Set a date and just do it. Tapering sort of draws it out over a long period of time but that's just me. You have to do what's going to work for YOU. If you think you can taper,write down a schedule and stick to it.  Can you do that?

taper sounds a bit better to deal with. But just talking about it wit u makes me want to go cold turkey. i am gonna try hard and hopefully i can quit. I just think the feeling of being just me...sober me. scares the hell out of me. Thank u soo much for chatting wit me.

WOW, you have made a lot of progress this evening admitting all this. I have replaced so many different drugs in the past, but nothing compares to cocaine for me, nothing. Before coke, I drank and in college and it started to take me down, but then I found dope and barely drank, it was not a problem or so I thought. I have used so many drugs in my life and didn`t begin to heal till I admitted I was powerless to them all, even the the drugs i haven`t tried. Congrats on getting off the blow, we are addicts and ANY drug will take us down. If you got off the blow, then you can get off the pills.

So what is your plan that your thinking now. Can you quit cold turkey or you gonna taper. We all need a plan. Your too young to toss it away, your have a family now:)

Can you try to taper off?  We can help you through that. Trust me on this...you need to stop before you get in too deep here.  Maybe you are depressed. You need to look at everything.

well the pain is there, it bothers me constantly. But vicodin, besides relieve the pain, also makes me feel like intensely happy and aware. Its as if all my senses boost. I feel so stupid. Here i am talking about being addicted to a lousy 4 pills a day.lol. Im hoping soon i can kickem away.

I also have a history of addiction. Cocaine was also my drug of choice. I had already let cocaine ruin my life once. I lost my girlfriend of 4 years my house and my car. That was 2 years ago. Now I have a beautiful wife and 1 year old daughter. But it seems to me that i was always searching for something to replace it. Then wen i was introduced to vicodin it gave me that feeling ive been missing. As an ex-cocaine user u know exactly wut feeling i am talking about. So ever since i found vicodin i have been battling the urge to just pop them like there was no tomorrow.

Okay...I don't think you should mess around with methadone. This is my opinion. Don't try to self medicate,okay?  If the pain is too strong you need to call your doctor. If you want to stop taking it and evaluate your pain level then you need to stop cold turkey.It sounds like the vicodin is a problem to you...you could also taper it down daily.
Right now this is doable for you and it's great you found the forum!!      You might want to discuss how you feel with a doctor. You may be depressed,who knows?

Exactly. No matter what drug I have been on, I had to always up my dose. My drug of choice is cocaine and went from a few lines a day, to 30 to 40 a day, it was sick. I got on oxy`s and started with a few after my overdose, but within a week i was taking 320 mgs a day and had to stop that cold turkey, what a nightmare. Stop now while you can, please trust me. You will get through this, there are some great people here and so happy you found this place, it has saved  my a ss many times.

In a sense i do need it to be happy. I feel alert, im up and on the go, and also i get things done without all the complaining of my back. iYes i do feel like i am addicted.  I am taking norco 10mg.

Hi~  Are you unhappy without the vicodin because you're in pain? Do you think you need it to feel normal?     What strength vicodin is it?
I have never taken methadone but I can tell you that you're at a pretty low dose of vicodin
and it doesn't make sense to take a drug that strong. If you think you have a problem(addiction) then you could taper it down. Do you think you're addicted to the vicodin?

It has not gotten any better since i hurt it. I use to take 2 vicodin(norco) a day. Until one day I went from 2 to 4. And now 6 months later i feel the urge to up my dose more and more, but i try not to. So i had a thought...that if i take methadone for a short time, it would completely kill the urge all together.

Ok, you have not been on them that long and it will be easier now to stop then a month from now etc, addiction is progressive. Do you have anyone that can help you taper down from them? Is going cold turkey an option. Normally I would not say cold turkey, but 4 a day is doable. I just saw your age, your so young man so don't let this take you down. Glad you posted, that is a step in the right direction and we are here to help? How is your back now, any better?

I see your point. And that is exactly why i got onto this forum... I wanted to ask people who have actually been through narcotic addiction. So a low dosage of methadone probably wouldn't be a good idea to stop a low dosage habit of vicodin.

I have to agree with Giz on this one, I mean maybe you don't even need suboxone either.  I mean 4 a day isn't a hugh amount.  I mean maybe you could wean, maybe do three, then two, then one and stop.  Maybe you need an antidepressant and that will help you with your unhappiness.  Giz I have to agree.

I am sorry, I just don't believe someone that is taking 4 vicodin's a day should got on a maintenance drug that is harder to come off and addictive for many, but then again, I don't have enough knowledge in this department to make that call. I am only giving my opinion and if I am wrong, I am sorry. I don't know your story yet and hope you share more.

I have been on vicodin for about 6 months now. i only take 4 a day, but if i don't have those 4 a day i am not a happy person. I started taking vicodin for my lower back pain(Compression fracture to be exact). My dad gave me a methadone pill to try out so i can kill the habit of vicodin, but i've read way too many bad things about it.

Avisg is right, I would try the suboxone over methadone.  I didn't go that rounte because of what others said, but I do take subutex, which is the same as suboxone and it works well.  I would go that way before I would go the methadone route.  Beside you don't have to go to a clinc every day to get  your dose, you get a scrpit and you can take at home.

Welcome to the forum. How long and why did you go on vicodin? Your still on a fairly low dose. Although I have never taken methadone, I can almost assure you, your trading the vicodin for something that is so so much harder to come off of. Others will be on soon to give you some advice that have been on it, please be careful.

Methadone is a VERY strong addictive drug it is pure H ell to come off of .honestly if think you would be far better of either tapering off or cting .If you feel that u need a maintenance program I would suggest suboxone before methadone .
