Question about valium?

Because of these terrible withdrawals from the oxycontins, my sister gave me some valium.  I was wondering how long valium stayed in your system?  And can you get addicted to valium?  Thank you very much, Babs

Im really sorry to here about your problems it sounds like maybe you should talk with a medical professional if your still that bad. They can give you something to help the Valiums are far from the answer it can make things so much worse. even the ER will help when your honest with them. There are also toll free numbers for addiction that can be very helpful when you withdrawing to give advise on what to look for to make sure your not gonna die! GOOD LUCK  I WISH YOU THE BEST!

My sister gave me 30 valium (10 mg) and that's all I'll get.  I will carefully use them and work down the dosage before I run out.  Surely I'll have to start feeling better from the oxy withdrawals soon.  Thanks again, Babs

By the way, if you are having that much fluid loss, don't just drink water, you need ALOT of electrolytes.  Steve L is absolutely right.  Get a friend of yours to buy you some pedialite water.. its to keep babies hydrated.. but it also helps you get your fluid back, and it remarkably cures hangovers :).

If you are actually dehydrated, water will make things worse if taken alone.  Salt & electrolytes & sugar with some water will do the trick.  Go see a doctor to help you get off of that.

I'm just saying valium is the wrong one, although it can make you feel better, it's unlikely that the benefit will outweigh the cost.  The withdrawals will go on for a while, and any benzodiazipine derivative is not meant for being taken for months, and if people are perscribed that way, it is error on the doctors part.  If you continue to take valium through your entire withdrawal phase, you will switch one addiction to another.   Sub treatment should be looked into if the withdrawals are that bad.

Well after hearing that most people withdrawing from a large oxycontin habit take either a blood pressure med or a benzo or sub to help with the withdrawals, why would I not want to take anything?  I've only heard of a few people going cold turkey from really huge oxy habits, a Yoda is one, with absolutely nothing to help them.  I am so miserable that I had to reach out to my sister and she gave me some valium.  I only take them when I get very anxious and to help me sleep at night.  I don't think I will get addicted to them because I'm trying to use them wisely and I don't particularly care for them.  But I sure did love those Oxycontin ER pills.  But I can understand your advice is well-intended and I appreciate that.  Thanks, Babs

I can tell that I am dehydrated.  And I'm throwing up pure bile.  If it doesn't stop I can have my neighbor take me to the ER when he gets home from work.  You are so sweet to be concerned about me.  I will keep you posted.  Thank you, Babs

Dont take valium to cope with opiate withdrawals.  Valium like all other benzos in the same family can be addicting, although diazepam(valium) is the easiest to get off of because of the longer half life in comparison to xanax and ativan.

Lets get to the basics

Valium = CNS Depressant
Oxycontin = CNS Depressant

The majority of opiate overdoses are from the latter combination.

Be safe, one addiction wont help another, and anxyolitics arent the right medication for your current situation.

As a rule of thumb, never mix depressants, including alcohol.

Listen, I'm no doctor but it sounds like you're losing ALOT of electrolytes with the runs and vomiting. Is there any way you can get to an ER? I'm concerned about you. Wish you the Best, Steve

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice.  I am having a very bad day.  I told in an earlier post that I took my last 3 oxycontins on Friday (I normally took more than that but that is all I had left.)  I still have diahreah and now I have vomiting.  I feel like I'm just going to die.  I can hardly walk to the bathroom.  What would I do without a laptop?  If I die I will make sure someone lets you know.  I have never felt so bad in my life.
Thanks again, Babs

Once you get off valium and a feeling a bit better, you might want to try Trazodone .. its an anti depressent but my doctor put me on it to help me sleep.  I used to have horrible panic attacks (nothing to do with drug w/d .. this was long before I started Oxycontin) .. I have never had a panic attack since being on Trazodone and my previous anxiety levels have really subsided.  I've been on and off various anti depressants other times in my life and have never had much of an issue coming off of them -- need to taper but after that it was always ok.

Barbara Gordons' late 1970's book " I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can" is terrific. She describes in detail her same experience with a Dr that had her on 40mg Valium a day then cut her off. I believe you suggested the book to others, as do I. God Bless,  Steve
PS I think she was on the Valium for many years, too

Some years back I had a 13 yr valium addiction. I didn't abuse them but my dr. kept giving me scripts for them. Then all of the sudden he said stop the valium. No pills to taper or anything. Abruptly stopping benzos can cause seizures and death. It was horrible. I went to bed and stayed there for three weeks. I wouldn't answer my phone or my door. I didn't eat or sleep, but I did fluids down. Finally, the dr. put me in the hospital and from there things got better. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Now I have been on xanax for quite a while but there are no plans to take me off of it. It helps keep my anxiety and panic attacks at bay. I also take an antidepressant that's helping a lot.
It's ok to use them for w/d. Just take as few as you can and stop them after w/d.

Take Care.....LS

hey, I hope your feeling a little better today.  Everyone pretty much said it all.  I'm taking a benzo also for my taper, but really I've been on them since before but maybe only took a few a month.  (xanax)  but now I'm taking more because my anxeity is taking me down hard, and makes it hard to function.  I as well get parnoid, but that's always been kinda a thing for me.
take care, wishes you the best

Hang in there and don't get down on yourself!! You're doing great!! If you KNOW you have a problem taking pills as directed, of course you should avoid having anything addictive on hand. That being said, many addictive medications are sometimes medically necessary for health reasons when the benefit outweighs the risk. Take good care of yourself and be kind to yourself.  Steve

I wish I could be as disciplined as you.  I never took my pills like I was supposed to.  That is what got me into such a bad addiction.  But I'm trying my best, but I feel worse than I've ever felt in my whole life.  Thanks for caring.  Your friend too, Babs

You are perfectly welcome and need not worry about withdrawl from the amount of valium you have. You're going through enough right now so try not to stress out if possible. To answer your question, I'm not currently withdrawing from anything as most people on the forum who know me know I take my meds as directed and do much better when on them. Sure do wish you the best that life has to offer. Your friend,  Steve

Thanks sweetie for all of your help.  I am going to take the valium very carefully but is does help with that anxious feeling I have with these terrible withdrawals.  Are you withdrawing from something too?  Thanks again, Babs

This is just my opinion..I'm NOT an MD..but I don't think you'll get into real physical addiction with 30 10mg tablets. You may experience some discomfort when you run out, though, and try to get more because of that. Personally, if you already have an addiction problem the last thing you need is to add something else to your laundry list.IMO. Hope you feel better real soon..I know it isn't easy.

Best Wishes, Steve

Thanks so very much for responding.  I thought I was going to get a complex because at first no one seemed to want to help me out.  Maybe I'm getting paranoid or something.  Steve, getting off of valium gave you all those terrible symptoms?  My oxycontin withdrawals are ungodly and I don't want to add any other ungodly withdrawals.  I've been eating the valium like candy because it makes me not as anxious and I can sleep some.  She gave me about 30 valiums, 10 mg each.  Is that too much to help me get through the oxy withdrawals?  Will I be sick after the last valium is gone?
And thanks to all of you that responded.  You are very nice and helpful.  Thanks, Babs

Thank you VERY MUCH!! I'm doing well now on my meds and not withdrawing from any prescriptions at this time or in the near future. No Dr will deny me the necessary meds and dosages to keep me stable. Sure, I wish I didn' have to take em, but I do. I'm not always checking the board but do drop in and certainly appreciate the warm welcome. It means so much. Gods'Best, Steve

Hi..I check the boards every few days to see if there's an issue I can help with. Yes, Valium IS addicting, so only use for 2 weeks or so as the withdrawls are unGodly. I recently got off a 30mg a day habit over a 3 month taper period. LOTS of vivid nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, etc. I still take, and need, xanax. No Dr is taking that away from me. But the point is, don't replace one problem with another. Really hope this helps!  God Bless, Steve

PS HI ALL!! Wishing you the best.

sorry, sometimes it takes a little while to get a response, but of course we want to talk to you and welcome to the forum..
i have taken valuim before and from some reason it worked the opposite on me and kept me up al night..i have taken every benzo they make..YES they are all addicting..The one that worked best for me was klonopin, i took it for anxiety attacks, for 3 yrs..not every day..Well i  got off of it and went through pure hell for at least 14 days..At the time i did not know it was addicting and did not know why my body was going through that...Until i started reading on the internet about it..
i still have to take it because my anxiety gets so bad, but i am very very cautious and only take it a few times a month...I don't need another addiction.
now everyone says that clonodine is the best to help with withdrawlas , so maybe that would help you better..i wish you luck
