You can do it. IF I could.... anyone can. I had no idea what was wrong with me when I started to wean myself off percs after two years. I had severe depression(does not last forever just feels like it) Then anxiety and stress. Then withdrawal. I have a lot of health issues, Diabetic, kidney transplant and more but I did it at home!!! I did take clondine I already had for high BP(read on this site I think) It took my mind sometime to get right afterwards. Too many neurons firing up again!! It is like a really really bad flu but only lasted me about three days. Hang in there like I said if I could do it anyone can. Use Ambien to sleep and Follow the Thomas recipe as everyone here seems to swear by it. Good luck!!

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place for help and support.
As anewbeginning said..you can ct(cold turkey )or taper.
If you choose to taper, you have to be very disciplined to not eat all the pills at once. It will take longer, but the wd's(withdrawals) will be minimal.
If you choose to ct you will need 5-7 days to get over the worst of it!

Getting clean is the easy part, staying clean is the hard part.
After you are done detoxing, itis important to get a plan together to stay clean( aftercare).Suggestions are NA mtgs, support groups(like this forum), counseling....we need to look at the core issues of why we use drugs to feel better emotionally...if you choose not to do this part of recovery...chances are high that you will relapse.

Let us know how you want to do this...we are here for you.
you have made the most important step...admitting you have a problem!
Good luck and keep posting!!!

Hello missjade,
I feel compelled to write although I have not been on a forum such as this for nearly 18 months.  I was hooked on vicadin and percocet and spending a fortune daily also.  I found out about suboxone, a clinic that offers this program, and a chat forum all in the same week! They were all blessings from God!  I tapered down the first week and called in sick with the flu like  flutterby111 mentioned I got myself down to 4 pills per day and felt like I had a cold.  The following week on Monday I went to the clinin and received my first script for suboxone and immediately felt better.  During that first week I felt well enough to work and by the second week I felt as good as I did before I got hooked a few years prior.  I started with chronic pain and ended up abusing the pills because I continued to need more and more.  I told my physician and he was very supportive and appreciative - the last thing I want is to have my doctor mistrust me.  I know you can do this, and you will feel FREE.  Freedom is fundamental to happiness.  I am praying for you and hope that you can find a doctor very quickly.  Let the suboxone help you - you do not have to face withdrawal.  This medicine is a miracle drug!
I am still on the medicine because it helps in pain management.  I may be on this for the rest of my life but it is well worth it.
take care and God bless

The problem is not getting off,its staying off. What are you going to do when you get that urge to get that warm-fuzzy feeling.I have been on percocets and oxycontin for a decade or so,I am now on methadone @40mgs a day.The meth makes me not think about the perks or the oxys. Its possible to taper off the metrhadone @ 1or 2 mgs a week, but in my case im awaiting a hip re-surfacing and use the meth for pain. The meth is not as problematic as the perks,no running out,and its covered on my drug plan john

I am sorry your going through al this.  I can tell you from personal experience to try suboxone.  It has been a life saver, especially if before you use you start exercising everyday and eating better.  When you finally decide that you want to stop its very successful.

Anewbeginning said it perfectly. I tapered and it was a little easier. Let us know what you want to do. You'll have all the support you need.

The 1st thing is to want off of them more than anything, then you have to decide if you wanna do it c/t or taper. I for sure know about the money issue, which I don't have to worry about anymore & LOVE IT!! If you CAN taper than your w/d's will be a little easier, but if you can get some help for about 5 days or so than you can just go c/t. You don't need a rehab & you don't need Methadone, you just need to do it! SOOOO many people here can help you. Just keep asking whatever questions you have. I think that everyone is terrified of the w/d's, but you won't die. GOOD LUCK!

I too was hooked on percs.  I'm on day 16 without them.  It was hell for about 6 days.  I wish I'd know about the thomas recipe and I'd wish I'd know about this website.  If you have the will power, which I know I didn't, taper off of them...I quit cold turkey.  The withdrawls were horrible, but I survived!  I didn't think I would, but I did!  And I feel FREE today!  Don't get me wrong, I still crave and emotionally I still have ups and downs, but not nearly as horrible as being hooked on them.  You can do it.  I have 2 children and rehab was not an option.  I played the flu card...it was like a really bad flu with some really bad emotional rollercoaster rides.   THIS PLACE IS MY NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS.  I thought I'd go to meetings for support, but I just hang out here...we are all here for you.  Talk to a doctor.  Ask for Clonidine, it helped me so much....too bad I didn't get it until day 5 or I'd probably have suffered alot less....good luck....we're here for you....I mean it.

Your not alone with us. I just got off oxycodone about 2 weeks ago. I had been on them for about 2 years. There are other people that will direct you to go to the Thomas Plan and some other plans for kicking this habit. It can be done.

I found it was not as hard as I thought it was going to be.

And I'm profoundly grateful for the help of the people on this forum. Truly without them I would be lost.
