detox and itching question

This might sound stupid, but I have been tapering down from methadone for about a month. I`ve gone from 40mg to 20mg in the past 2 weeks.  Every day I go through bouts of itching, mostly when I go to bed. It`s like having chiggers or something. My arms, hands, feet, face itch and my head gets itching so bad I can`t get away from it until I take a Benadryl. I have to admit that taking 2 Benadryl before bed helps a LOT for the itching and even being able to sleep. There is no signs of a rash or anything and it seems to be everywhere at one time or the other. I`ve seen people get really high and itch a lot, so I`m just wondering if that is what it is.

Thats my plan, to talk to the doctor about it. I just mistrust doctors and wanted to get some honest input before I talk to him about it. Thanks.

No experience with methadone but I've found a lot of narcotics make me itch, also with no rash or anything but it's everywhere ... inside my ears, nose, throat.  I'm scratching my arms and legs.  I found Benadryl helpful as well.  I also found that when I tapered down from a lot of different medications, I often noticed some side effects at lower doses than higher ones for whatever reason.

Have you mentioned it to your doctor at all?  I don't think Benadryl is harmful and if it also helps your sleep, that' s a plus.
