Dextoxing off opiates and slipped a tiny bit...will it start all over???

I am a 29 year-old newly married woman. I started taking Vicodin about 10 years ago in college after a basketball induced ACL reconstruction. During my college career 4 more surgeries would follow in addition to a jaw surgery and hand surgery, teeth extraction and other misc. stuff. At first it started as a as-needed thing but has developed over the years as a way to distance myself from my emotions. ANYWAY I'm newly married my husband just found out and I want to stop. I started this detox last Tues by tapering down. I took none, then two halfs, then two 1/4's then none and today 1/4 (my last!!) Have I set myself back now because I took another 1/4 after taking none?? On top of everything I already had strep throat that turned into a sinus infection that turned into a lung infection. It's been 2 weeks and my prexisting illness won't get better because I'm fighting two things at once. I started meditating with EFT (positive thinking) and doing the Thomas Recipe. I canceled my suboxone appt. because I felt great yesterday but I hit a pitfall today. I hope I didn't set myself back from the detox. I really really want to get off these horrible pills that have controlled my life for too long. Does anyone have feedback? This sight has offered an immense amount of support. Thank u for any help you can offer me.

Good luck to you. Positive thinking and exercise will take you further than anything else. As you said, using is a symptom, Cheering for you. Andrew

Thanks for all  your responses. My husband does know that I am going thru WD and he is trying to help but had a terrible experience because his former wife died from her addiction to alcohol and drugs. So he has this "no tolerance" attitude which makes it hard to talk to him or gain any type of sympathy. People say that the actual substances stay in your fat cells if you are a long-time user like me. I have used sporadically over the last 10 years but nonetheless used. The last 4 years it has been a cocktail of 2 soma 1 tramadol and 1/2 to 1 vic or perc 3 x's a day. Not everyday but most days. I got off the soma which wasn't hard. the tramadol almost killed me. That stuff is poison and much harder to quit than anything I've ever tried. The good thing is the symptoms are short-lived. I just feel like my best friend is gone. The thing I relied on for emotional support. I never felt lonely and everything seemed easier with a painkiller on board because after all the pain is still there and life still throws you all kinds of curve balls. I know I'm strong enough to stay off. Today is truly day 1 and I feel okay...I will stay away from the coffee (I have been drinking it like crazy for some reason!) Thanks for your prayers. Lots of Love and Positive Thoughts your way!!!

HI well you tapered down enough to do as much damage control as possible I agree your taper was fast but I wouldent go back on them keep the ground you have gained.....your withdrawals should be mild you not on that much mostly restlessness and no sleep a hot soak can help with thev restlessness you might get the runs imodium works good for that
right now you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile it is only temporary this is 1/3 phyical and 2/3 mental be ready to fight it out on both fronts ......I truly believe this is a battle one or lost in ones own mind so attitude is very important pick up the stuff in the thomas resipe it is located at the lower right of this screen also pick up a case of gatoraid when your really feeling it a hot tub will take away most of the symptoms ....dont figt the sleep rent some movies your probley going to be up for a few nights it will give you something to do I found laying on the couch with my eyes closed and some soft music playing the closest thing to sleep you can get it helps hang in there keep posting try not to let fear into the equation it only makes it worst and its always worst in our heads then it turns out to be  good luck and God bless.......Gnarly

More power to you.  I'm in a similar boat right now.  5 herniated disks, 2 acl recon., 2 knee surgeries, an appendectomy 2 months ago, and a few other things here and there.  When detoxing, Benadryl has sometimes helped with the funny arm feelings.  Keep on pushing through!  I'm rooting for you :)  You should be ok after taking the 1/4.  I did sub one time and it worked for my but I was in full pill mode, like 10 30mg oxy/day.  After an insurance mix up I had to stop sub really quick.  Unfortunatly I'm back on them but I have a plan and am getting off of them now (after my last back injection).

No, you haven't ruined anything. You don't want to give your brain to use this as a reason to just keep taking. I will be honest with you and tell you that your taper was very fast, and now it sounds like you have none left so you won't be tempted to run to your hiding spot. You can do this for sure and your motivation from your husband finding out will help you along the way. It makes us look at what we are doing through someone else's eyes and it can be a good wake up call. You are doing great so far! Please keep hydrated. For me that was the most important thing and buy some amodium. (sp?) all the tips sound so minuscule when facing this type of thing but they really do work. Getting out for fresh air and excersise will make you feel ten times better. When I was going through this, I was so weak but my legs wanted to run it felt like. I forced myself late at night to get on my bike and go around the block a few times. This helped my legs to relax and fall asleep for a while. Can I ask does your husband know you are withdrawing?
You are doing great and I just know you can be an inspiration to many on this forum if you keep us posted and share your progress and story. Good luck and drink lots!!! (no caffeine )
Take Care!

im so glad you cancelled your sub appointment, you are almost done with this and you can beat this without sub.  Dont worry about looking back and look forward on your recovery.  You seem to know what your talking about and you and do this,  keep yourself very hydrated and take lots of showers/baths if the wd's get bad.  If you go on sub then you will just need to get off that.  Sub is not always the answer and it's not the easy way out, honestly, there is no easy way out, it just takes time.  You re going to have your good days and bad, just take it day by day or hour by hour if need be.  try t stay busy so you are not thinking about pillls.  Have you thought about any aftercare?
