thanks gnarly -- you were a big help. And thanks yo evenyone else for the opinions and kind words. I'm still doing well here with the taper. It's a "blind taper" so I don't know how much I'm being given. But I haven't been dopesick at all. Willkeep in touch.
hey girlee im glad I could help get you or anyone else free of the liquid hadcuffs
your in my prayers nightly...again good luck and much success to you...Gnarly
It's been 13 days since I've had any methadone. I know sometimes people really feel it about 2 weeks after they stop. Wish me luck guys -- I really want off that junk. And thanks for your support.
They actually use a combination of hydrocodone and valium here (and I did have to come to FL to find a place like this). They dose every 4 hours -- they even wake you up at night. Of course, once they get you comfortable, they start tapering right away -- but you don't notice the taper since they are doing it right. I am sooo glad that I didn't swap to Sub -- it would have been a big mistake for me. I know everyone is different, but this seems to be working for me. I'm not dope sick at all, yet I know that I am being tapered off opiates. I'm from New England and had to travel to FL to find a place like this. But what they are doing here made sense to me so I made that first phone call to them. I only wish I had done it sooner.
I absolutely agree that I couldn't do this myself -- but under the supervision of a great medical staff, it seems to be working. I know that there's more work after a detox -- don't think for a second that I don't.
I'll keep you updated. In the mean time, my best to all of you -- this is a great forum. It really helped me look at my problem and find a solution.
If anyone wants to check this place out, go to www.summerhousedetox.com
And a special thanks to gnarly -- your emails really helped me take action.
This usually only works when administered by medical people or is directed by them. They may use morphine and other non opiate, newer drugs. When people try to get these drugs on their own without med. supervision,it rarely works that's why I won't name some of these drugs. Remember, after your detox the real work starts but you can do it better not having the WD's. all the best
What are the opiates with a short half life? Do you suffer from cravings this way. I had thought of that method and seemed reasonable. Keep us up on how it works for you.
not heard of using short acting to stop methadone but can see how it would be helpful at the very end...congrats to u as u have done a wonderful thing! I am not sure switching to sub woulda been ur answer as it is another strong narcotic with a long half life like methadone//the way they tapered u off with shorter acting narcs sounds safer
Thing is it sounds like u were ready to let go//and u did...many will not agree with using one narcotic to get off another//unless it is sub//and I do not personally agree with that cos sub is so much stronger than lots of other narcs//thing is//if the person is ready to let go then they will..u had a plan and u worked it thru///good for u//keep posting
these detox like the one you are in? and they have the best protoclas (detox regiments) for getting off methadone and other tricky narcotics. My friend has a few detoxes like that in s Fl. and they seem to have the best results and used the best meds. No matter how good a detox is, remember you have to stick w it after. addiction just doesn't just go away on it's own. usually. all the best
hey girlee glad to see you post....this whole in patient thing has me interested ...
after doing a slooooooow taper theres got to be an eazer way to do it...
I did what I had to do to break a 6 1/2yr methadone addiction but if you add the pills in
its more like breaking a 16 1/2yr addiction...im glad you have found some help
tapering was difficult to say the least and cold turkey off 150mg...NOT..even going there
but what you doing is getting off the most painless way possible im interested in how the whole process goes so keep me up to date...thanks.....Gnarly
