half life and suboxone

I just got my rx of suboxone today...I've been taking subutex for a week.

The prescribing dr thinks that I should take these for 6 months but after talking to a friend that is on sub now, I am NOT staying on this for 6 months!!  I am going to come up with my own taper.

My question is.... I think avisg explained to me last week what the half life meant and it's around 36-72 hours...is that how long this will stay in my system?  Will I start to feel w/d's then?  When it comes to the end of my taper, couldn't I wait that long to take the sub?

Like avis said..A MEDICINE’s half-life is the time it takes for its concentration in the body to be reduced by half. and this can vary person to person due to metablism and such...people can feel wds at the half life point if addicted due to the fact they do not have a full dose they r used to in their body...it would get worse supposedly as the drug toally levaes ur system...some drugs like hydro have a 5-6 hour hald life so u would be in wd much quicker and usually would be over much quicker...with lortab at heavy use u can be in wds as soon as 8 hours after dosing

Sure hope you will read the Suboxone testimonies on the health pages (page number 2) as you make your plan.  The faster you get off of Sub the better your chances of not getting another addiction that may be worse than the one you were on.  Wish you all the best.  Please keep posting and letting everyone know how you are doing.

Look at the health discussions in box at right hand side of page.........find Suboxone / Subutex FAQ and read up on sub ------ taking it for 6 months would be a gross mistake --- I doubt that your doc would take it that long.............it isnt a maintenance kind of thing............
