Reading this as I bite the ears off my chocolate Easter bunny. Hmmm I am on Suboxone also.
WOW, Teach, I have some Suboxone info, buthave to address the Chocolate first...WOW. I thought I was going crazy. I have been on Suboxone for over 6 weeks now and I swear a few days after starting on it, I started craving chocolate which was extremely odd because I am not a chocolate kind of guy. A nice candy once in a while was good for me, but now, in the mornings I have to have a Double Mocha Capacino along with either a double chocolate donut and/or Hostess Swiss Cake Rolls...sheez, I thought I was going crazy....lol. OH man, I feel so much better now that I have read that I am not alone with the chocolate thing. But what about cereal? Anyone grow addicted to cereal? Since being on Sub, I usually go to the corner walgreens and purchase 5 boxes of cereal at a time....lol. I do everything I can to get my favorite - Almond Honey Bunches of Oats!!! lol...Ok, Suboxone, Teacher I too am on Sub and its like a little wonder drug. However, I combined bringing the Lord Jesus Christ into my recovery and the combination fo the two have done miracals in my life.
My doctor told me the way Sub works; this is my best recollection. Suboxone is actually an opiate. It has similiar properties as that of Pain Killers because it attaches itself to your neuro receptors and mimics that of a pain killer, but without the "high" associate with pain killers. Its actually a non reactive drug so as to create a non responsive response. Because it attaches itself simiilar to painkillers, it tricks your body into thinking that it is receiving the opiate that it desires and craves; but actually all it is doing is taking up space on the neuro receptors so if you do take painkillers, etc... their effect will be extremely limited because the painkillers will not have many places to go to a a result of the Suboxone taking up all the space. IT is a VERY POWERFUL opiate.
I have read time and time again, that tapering off Sub is horrible, its the toughest thing to do, its worse that heroin, etc.... yadayadayada...(not making fun of anyone) when in actually the tapering plan, when administered by your physician will be relatively easy to do with very little side effects. There are some, a few, however they are mild. I received this info from my doctor and I trust what he says 100%. He is the BEST Doctor I have ever met. He has been totally honest about everything up to this point so I just can't believe he would ever mislead me.
Best of luck Teacher.
PS: Don't forget to get that extra help. GOD will listen if you open your heart to him. He has provided me with direction (litterally given me direction, and I would love to share it with you if you are interested, just email me) he fought the battles that I was too weak to fight and today, is still standing in the wings ready to go to war for me. He loves his children and will take on Satan anyday of the week. Its awesome to know that he is in my corner!
I will pray for you Teacher. Best of luck

glad it helped you...keep us posted as lots want to know about using that drug...you should keep your progress in your journal...are you going to taper off?
Congrats on day 9! I have been laughing at all of you chocoholics out there - wait, not laughing AT you; laughing WITH you. Someone at work offered me a piece of chocolate today and I was afraid to take it b/c I thought of all of the posts I've seen about you guys not being able to get enough of it. Trust me, if I had it in my possession, I'd probably melt it, roll it into little pill-shaped pieces and eat them like they were vicodin. Hence, I will try to stay as far away from it as possible. I can't possibly afford yet another addiction.
