hi ive been on dhc 60mg for over two years and am currently taking 30 60mg a day.  my doctor is currently prescribing them for me well 19 of them. my doctor does not want to continue with this and has reffered me to the drug problem service. i ahd an appoitment with them on monday and there ONLY option to help me is to give me 150ml a day of methadone because my tollerance is so high. i did want to get subutex to help me get off dhc but they said it wouldnt work because my tolerance is so high. i really really dont want to go on methadone because i was on it for 4 years and in 2004 i went to rehab and got off it.  at rehab it was so hard, i didnt sleep for nineteen days or nights, felt like i was cracking up and for about a year after i still felt like ****. im  really scared and that was only 40ml i was on so what would it be like on that amount they want to give to me.  i really feel like im letting everyone down , my wee girl especially, although i try to keep as much from her as possible.  i am looking for ways to get off these dhc without going on methadone, does anyone have any suggestions please?

i have seen people on bu11loads of heroin switch to sub..it is actually more powerful than methadone...1 mg of sub = 10-15 mg of methadone

or u could go on suboxone if u tapered down a bit from the dhc...then waited til u were in wds to take it.....thing is u need aftercare so u can stay clean...suboxone is powerful and addicting like methadone....gotta break the cycle of addiction..it is a process...tapering down on ur doc is an option....it can be done

You already know what the methadone is like. But you will need something to get off the dose you have going. Or you will need luck and incredible willpower. I would suggest going cold turkey? It will not be as bad as the last methadone withdrawals that you had. And you will have a lot of support from here. There are only a few realistic ways to approach this. You may keep on going of course. Or you may go back on methadone, Or you can taper the dose down until you can quit. Or you may just quit cold turkey. Thats really the only choices for this one. And you may take methadone for a long time and then have to detox from it anyway. An important thing to remember is to make a plan. Even write it down. And then stick to it. And best of luck to you, whichever route you take....... eagle

What a tough call --- I know from what I have read on this site about the problem of getting off of Methadone ---  Hope you find another way.   Wish you could taper or just CT it to get clear.  All the best.
