help??

hi.  tried to quit vicodin about a week ago and failed.  the withdraws were too bad and "magically" i was able to obtain yet ANOTHER prescription.  I also am on Lexapro (just started taking it yesterday).  i have one and half vicodin left.  will the lexapro help with the withdrawls this time???  I'm so scared.  I don't want to hurt.  besides the physical pain I'm terrified of the depression that comes when i run out of vicodin.  i have NO energy and NO interest in ANYTHING!  i have been taking about 10-15 pills daily for the last eighteen months.  750's.  can anyone PLEASE, PLEASE tell me that lexapro or any anti-depressant for that matter, helped them with the withdrawls and they weren't that bad??  I have so much riding on my shoulders right now and I cannot afford to be out of commission.  my dad is counting on me every day - two times a day at that - for his very survival.  he has cancer and i need to feed him by tube feeding in the morning and at nite.  not to mention allllll the appointments he has.  i am his sole lifeline.  i think an encoraging story or two would help me face the withdraws.  is there anyone out there that made it cold turkey with just anti depresants as a tool?

please help.  please support.  someone please bring a hammer and knock some sense into me...

I dont know if the lexapro will help with the actual w/ds BUT it will help with the mental part that lasts so much longer than the physical part. I started taking Cymbalta about a week before i stopped taking norco and it helped me sooooo much!!

My son is on day 5 of his cold turkey... he is feeling great today (physically - no more pain) we even got out of the house to go play pool - they were closed so we went looking at guitars instead and to eat - he is doing great today - said he has a small headache but that's it.  I went by the Thomas recipe and the aminos (top right of the page - health links I think).  I also gave him aleve for pain and lots and lots of gatorade - pushed gatorade on him non-stop (for fluids), bananas, ensure, (he ate lots of them and I really think they helped).  ***LOTS OF PRAYERS*** (prayer - most important - I think) and soooooo much support on this board!  I joined here less than a week ago and have so much respect for the willingness to help from so many wonderful people.  They are great and will help you so much.  Like I said I'm new and did ALOT of research trying to figure the best way - and can tell you it really worked well for him.  If I can help you at all - please let me know - I'm still new so I can't give alot of advice - but I can give lots of support and I can tell you these things really helped him.  I will keep you in my prayers.

***Is there anyone that could help you with your dad and you while you do this?***

Best wishes :-)

i didnt not do it ct i give you credit for going that way, but i do wanna give you some support, i know just me being busy along with my sub has helped a lot, see i dont care what a medicine says even though im on sub i still get stressed, and cravings, and depressed, i was on percs, and opiates are very strong and really take over your life. but im getting married in a few weeks and doing all the running around is relly helping me, i have been staying busy. maybe that can help, just staying busy with helping your dad might help. and as for the ad i dont know anything about it maybe someone else would know, i know avis just posted that a new furom for medicine advice was made, maybe that can help. but if you ever just need someone to talk to you can pm me anytime. i wish you the best of luck, and your in my prayers. please let me know how you are doing.

Sproutie..I know it is hard to quit! I was using the same drug anywhere from 20-25 pills per day. My method to quit was tapering b/c I have a toddler to care for. It's hard to taper and takes self control.

Life DOES get better when you are clean! It is worth the suffering to get there. If you read some of the stories on here you will see that people are so much happier w/o the pills.

Check out the health pages on the right side of the screen...there is a Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol and they are both helpful.

Good luck and keep posting!

I have went through w/d's more times then I want to remember all c/t. I know when I convinced myself I was going to be deathly sick I would be and when I would tell myself over, and over it won't be that bad its just the flu I didn't feel as bad. Don't get me wrong I didn't feel well but could still manage to do the daily grind. Does your Dr. know your addicted to them...if he does you could get some help from him. Clonidine has been a lifesaver, I'm actually on it for my b.p but it got rid of about 75% of the w/d's. I know its hard and I didn't really answer your question about anti-d's but I wanted to let you know I'm here for you. Take care of yourself you can do this.

All the Best,
~Susie
