Vicodin withdrawal help

My daughter (27) just told me she is addicted to Vicodin and has been since the birth of her daughter at the end of February.  She is extremely embarassed and after discussion, we have decided that she will have the "flu" for a few days and quit cold turkey.  She is married, but her husband is one of those "suck it up" people. She has told me that she gets cramps and diareha after just missing a few of hours. Last pill around 9:00 this morning. I will take my precious granddaughter for the weekend.  Any advice on her withdrawal for the next 2 1/2 days....I think she said she was taking between 6-8 a day.. a habit that has her family in financial trouble

Work and withdrawels, not good bed mates!
A financial hit of missing a few days of work (unless your making tons of cash) will go right along with the hits that have already been taken by this addiction, the difference is that this is the end of the hits and afterwards restructuring and rebuilding can begin, much better option than continuing the pills, that will only become more and more the longer. It goes, guarenteed!
There is always a reason, even if it goes against some moral standard, there is no distance not worth going to get clean...
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh but in the mind of an addict (my mind) there is always an excuse and I pray for you, your daughter and her family that you guys find the way to get her the help and tender care she needs...
Good luck!

Thank you....I forwarded the information to my daughter..I was hoping she would be a bit better by Monday.  the doctor wanted her to take off work for two weeks.  She can't even afford or explain that.  Thank you again for your response!

I am 13 days clean from a 3 year 15 Vicodin a day habit.  I quit cold turkey.  the first day was not too bad but days 2, 3 and 4 can be tough.  Have your daughter take lots of hot baths, drink lots of fliuds and try to stay occupied.  I did the first two days at home and the rest while I was at work.  Everyone is diffrent but overall it was not as bad as I had expected.  Now the hard part is staying clean.  I started to going to N/A meeitngs and they are really helping.  Your support is the greatest asset your daughter can have.  Keep being there for her and your grandduaghter and she will pull through this with your help.  By this time next week she should fell 100% better and be on the road to a pill free life.
