how do I detox from tramadol while I'm pregnant??

I am over 17 weeks pregnant and have been taking tramadol by prescription for over 6 months.I know I need to quit but it is so hard.I can't quit cold turkey and I'm afraid doing that will also hurt the baby. How can I stop taking tramadol without causeing stress on the baby?I'm really worried about this.

Thank you for your input,it's good to know I'm not the only one who's been through this.I have to say I used to have a drug problem with hard drugs and it was easier to quit them then it is to quit tramadol. If I'd known how bad it could be I'd never have taken it.I will definately talk to my doctor about it and will keep in touch.

You need to do it under a dr's supervision but I can tell you from personal experience.

They had me on oxycodone during my pregnancy for severe back pain and each week lowered the doseage by 1/4 to where at the end I was taking 20mg a day (down from 80).

The key is to go SLOW. if your gonna do this start by taking 1 pill less per 3-5 days. It'll take a few weeks to wean off but if you do go slow you and your baby will be fine.

Good luck.

Yes especially while pregnant this needs to be done under the supervision of your OB. For babys safety and even your own. Tramadol isn't something you can safely drop off of even when you aren't pregnant as it can cause convulsions, it needs to be tapered. There are plenty of us on here including myself that have gone through tram withdrawal and could probably give you some taper advice but that wouldn't be a good idea while pregnant. Only your OB should give you this advice and don't worry they will know what to do to keep you and baby safe and to keep you from feeling to bad. Good luck and God Bless and please don't make any changes or try to take any advice until you have talked with your OB. Luv, Jacky

I would say only under doctor supervision.  I wouldn't want to try something like that while pregnant.  Just doesn't sound safe to me at all!

Please talk to a doc.  I am going thru WD from tram right now, and it is very unpleasant,...to put it nicely!  Don't do it alone!
