PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor, simply a long-time Rx opiate junkie who has had many opportunities to develop a way to detox. This is a recipe for at-home self-detox from opiates based on my experience as well as that of many other addicts. It is not intended as professional medical advice. It is always wise to make sure none of the recipe ingredients or procedures conflict with medications you may be taking. Likewise, if you have any medical condition, disease, allergy or any other health issue, consult your doctor before using the recipe. Thanks, Thomas
THOMAS RECIPE
If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.
For the Recipe, You'll need:
1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.
2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).
3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.
4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).
5. Vitamin B6 caps.
6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).
How to use the recipe:
Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.
Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.
During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.
Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.
At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.
Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.
As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.
Do you have anyone that can help with your kids while you detox? You'll need about 5 days to start feeling better. Days 3 and 4 are usually the hardest. After day 5 the worst of the physical withdrawals are over. You just have to have a strong mindset. Come on here and post. Many people on here will give you the words of encouragement that you will need. Most people on here have been or are in your shoes. There are many success stories on here that prove it can be done. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask!

for me..it took 5-7 days or so..I had sleepless nights, cold sweats, stomach pain..just terrible..knowing that if i go back to it i have to face all that all over again, just makes me want to stay away..but then again there is that mental addiction knowing that all i have to do it put this stuff up my nose and everything will be peachy fine in my life. thats y these thigns are so bad..i just turned 20 and since i started a year or so ago, i lost everything i had..my education, car, motivation, family and other ****..this stuff (opiates in general..) sucks the life out of you..
my problem now:
i knew i wouldnt be able to get through the sleepless nights and other stuff so i sent myself down south where i have no connections to get drugs..but all i think about it when i get back, how good it will probably feel..i have addiction in my family and knowing that if i screw up, it can cause my brother to fall back into it again too, that alone helps me to stay clean..we'll have to see what happens when i face anxiety and stress again back at home..i just hope i stay strongminded and doesnt fade..its scary..
I live and breath oxycodone...I believe it will haunt me forever! How was your detoxing...was it painfull??\
Zakk
You can do this. I am 81 days clean from Vics. You will need some help the first 4-5 days. After that most are able to function somewhat.
hello...finally a response! Thank you for the advise....do i need to plan my detox? or just do it...i go to college full time and i realize i will miss a bunch of days....how long umtil the sickness of withdrawl stops? what day (4,5,6,7)?
Z.
Like Cathy said "it's not easy". but you can do it.
I am 53 days clean!!! and it is all a bad memory now.
You can do it!!!! alot of regular people do it every day.
Good Luck.
When your at the main page of the forum, click on post a question, & you will get alot more responses. But, I went c/t from 20 Lorcet's a day & I didn't die. Day 28 today. If you can taper, your w/d's will easier, but it is very hard to taper & takes ALOT of will power or somebody else to dispense you your pills. I tried & failed.
No there is no message...sorry for the ignorance. I realize now what it means!

Start a new question...lots can help...you need to get the thomas recipe off of here and get prepared....make a plan...step one is deciding to quit! hey...that can be the hardest part
i am a 5 year oxycodone user and i need to hear what to do to quit these sons of....you know whats! Anyone?
Z.
I basically quit CT after 3 years of fairly heavy hydrocodone use average 80 mg a day...I did a quick taper so I could make it to my long weekend,,,,tapering was hard and I wished that I did not have to do it and had just CT...I do not think I could have worked day1 ...maybe not day 2...after that I coulda but needed the mental time and would have been difficult i was off 5 days and felt good enough for sure the 5th day...but hey...I deserve a break here and there...keep posting...what are you taking and how much?
Hi...is ct the only option or can you taper? I tapered for 3.5 weeks and then jumped..day 29 today clean. Withdrawals were no where near as bad as ct....I mean I had biz trips and work to attend too...
just a thought...
Peace,
Nick
You will definetaly need some help with the kids. If you want to quit & you can get some help for a few days then you CAN DO IT! I went c/t from 20 10/650's a day & on the 5th day I could take care of my kids. Everyone is different though & you could be fine on day 4 or so.But you will have to give some more info about what your taking & how much. GOOD LUCK!
i quit cold turkey and am 65 days clean woo hoo!!! it was not easy, but it wont kill ya and you will regain your life, that makes it so worth it. type thomas reciepe in the search engine it has great vitamins to help. tke long hot baths for the aches and i took tylenol pm for sleep. try to get a little excersize a short walk or something i know it is hard but it rreeaaallly helps. the worst of it will be over in 5-7 days and then you will notice a huge difference. it is important to line up some aftercare for when the cravings set in and they will from time to time. you can do this. we are here to help you, keep posting and keep us updated. you can pm if you wanna talk.
