Isn't that weird?  I feel the same way. I have headaches, and refuse to take Tylenol. Without my DOC, how "dare I swallow Tylenol?"
well, that's the human mind...

300 pills? wow. i had a similar situation but not quite the stash, in fact i was running out and was tired of thinking of new sources.

i do not recommend any alcohol for at least a month, if not more. for me it triggered the cravings and anxiety. i still get some after a drink or two. if you can taper quickly, hold on because you can expect some sleepless nights and potentially extreme anxiety. after a week, i began taking vitamins (sources of info in this site) and helped tremendously with fatigue.

if in doubt, please see your doc. life is too short to wear blurry glasses.

i wish you all the best.

What you were using was almost exactly what I was using.  Here is what I did.  I you have the discipline to taper, this will work and keep you from other abuses because you feel like ****.

After having notified my Dr's not to write any more scripts, I worked w/my personal Dr. on this taper:

I dropped from 60mg to 37.5mg overnight.  I felt a little crappy but went and got some SAMe at the supplements store which helped w/my mood.  It took exactly 4.5 days for my body to adjust to such a sharp drop.  I stayed on the 37.5 for 8 days.

I then dropped to 30mg and stayed there for 10days due to being on a vacation and not at home.

I than dropped to 20mg and stayed there for 5 days and then dropped 5 mg/day for the next 4 days to get completely off.

I still went through W/Ds but had nothing that involved being in the bathroom, no headaches, only fatigue and some sleep issues.

See my post titled "Holy **** Do I Feel Good" for what I'm doing now.

I am on day 8 today, feel great, high energy due to the supplements listed and slept like a baby from 10 pm to 5:30 this morning and bounded out of bed like a deer.

Good Luck.  It ***** but as Winston Churchill said:  "this too shall pass".

wow...I admire your goal setting.  quitting 3 habits is going to take some work and your body will be screaming at you.  I agree with worried...exercise is a very healthly substitute if you can handle it.  I don't recommend anyone exercise while taking meds suchs as benzos or opiates because injuries can easily occur and you'll be right back where you started, e.g. pain meds for your injury(s).  But, if you can exercise, even short walks and can set some goals in this area, this healthly alternative would probably take your mind off from your addictions.  The 300 stash is worrisome...as others have said, if you havethem, you will probaly end up taking them.  Be careful and good luck...will be interested in your story as you progress towards recovery.

BTW - I don't drink so can't help you with the wine issue...

Staying busy and exercise can help aot for me...a glass of wine here and there should not hurt...but u stated that u had not had a drink in years...if u used to have an alcohol problem..i would not sugest a glass of wine as with us 1 pill is never enuf and for an alcoholic..1 drink is never enuf...be safe and keep posting

My experience has been that I abuse all substances - so be careful with the wine. I do love a good Merlot though! As Missy said, the worst physical w/d is about a week. Advil helped for the body aches/headaches, imodium for the runs (not everybody gets 'em) and herbal sleep aid if you're off the xanax too. I still have trouble sleeping. Warm milk is my best night time friend but not everybody can endure the taste. You're taking on alot at once - maybe focus on one addiction at a time to set yourself up for success. However you do it, you're in my prayers.  Enjoy the sunrise!

Bull, if I read it correctly, you haven't had a drink in 3 years?
So, for your body, drinking and the xanax,  will be a "new" experience.

I really would NOT suggest it.  At least not any real amount.
It is your life.  Don't be foolish.

You haven't had alcohol for long enough to wait a bit longer don't you think?

You are quitting all of your vices at one time..  But something tells me you are going to deal with the psychological more than the physical.
To stay mentally tough on 3 addictions/dependencies, is a commendable undertaking.

I would say you are going to need some good coaching, and support.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing..

You asked about how much worse it will get.  When I went down from that amount the first time, I tapered, and did not deal with much W/D.  I really depends on your body, along with the other dependencies you are planning on quitting.

Personally, if it were me, I would wait to quit smoking, so you can successfully quit the other 2.  Then work on the smoking..

Anyone else agree with this???

NOTE  this is just MHO

If you are going to have one glass of wine, "a small one", I can't see that it would hurt you if you are healthy otherwise.  I don't know your whole story.
And I am NOT a doctor!!!!   But if you are clean off of Xanax, then probably. IF you are TAKING ANY XANAX, THEN    NO>>>>>>  NO>>>>>   NO>>>>>>

Far worse to drink on benzos that hydros.
Although as you already know , it's not good with either.

Finally,  If you really "need" to have a "taste" of wine, for nothing but the taste...
Why not fill a shot glass full?  Sip it REAAAAALLLL slow????  Enjoy the flavor and NOT the buzz.

Yes,,,  I "took" a lot more than that.
Your answer is not clear.  You have 300 in "stock".
Several questions come to mind.
1. are you wanting to go Cold Turkey or taper?
2. if you taper can you control your taper? and if Cold Turkey, are you willing to remove the vics from your home?
3. Your choice may depend on your ability to get off of work, and your commitments.

In my limited experience.... If you have them in the house, eventually you WILL take them.  You need to decide.  If you are going to taper I think you would need about 40-50 to get through a reasonable taper.  SO, you have the "inventory".

Also, the xanax is another horrible long-term drug, that you have to decide on.  I was taking Ativan, (at least an equal devil) for a couple years too.  I quit that C/T, but that is Highly NOT recommended.

I feel lucky that I was never dependent on Ativan.

Let us know what you decide.  Best wishes,,,  Decisions....

You'll tend to get drunk much easier as you body goes through turmoil.  I wouldn't recommend it.  You'll probably also have a hangover and want some pills for pain!

Kick the painkillers first, then work on the xans.

We'll be here when you're ready.

Best Wishes.
