Are you under a physician's care?  If so, I would recommend a taper plan with your physician. If not, there are excellent tapering methods on this site; just do a search.

Definitely find out the right way to take suboxone.  I'm sure someone will be on in a bit and will explain it better.  But I know if you take it too soon, you go into precipitated withdrawals and from what I've read about them, they are horrific.  You need to be so many hours free of the narcotic in your case oxy, and be in a certain state of withdrawals, otherwise you'll find yourself in real trouble.

Also, from what I understand, suboxone is a program, not just a pill.  And if you stay on it past a certain length of time, you'll have another dependence, if not addiction.  My understanding is suboxone is extremely hard to get off of.

Do you have anyone to help you through this?  Keep checking in here.  You'll find great information and support from people who have already dealt with all of this.

Best of luck to you.

You "do" have suboxone? If so, I'm not totally familar with that stuff but it seems to me you "do not" want to take any of that while you have oxycontin or oxycodone in your system. I believe that when people go that route to minimize their wd's, they have to be free of taking any of the pain meds for a couple days or you can get a wicked form of painful symtoms to come on,,The two drugs fight for the same brain receptor..Best bet on quiting is talking with your doctor about it. There is no fast taper with that stuff. All your doing is putting yourself in the position of having partial wd's while taking the smaller doses. Might as well go cold turkey unless you want to prolong those feelings. After 7 to ten days the majority of the physical symtoms will be gone if you go cold turkey. Its rough, but thats the quickest way.

The suboxone is a double edged sword when it comes to using that to help. Some people say its the best thing that ever happened to them and others say avoid it like the plague. If you choose to do that though, you really need to discuss it with your doctor...Hope this helps
