Barry- Thank you so much! I am currently tapering off Tramadol as I don't need them anymore, whoa! You talk about a shocker! I had no idea how bad and addicting the Tramadol were. My Dr is helping me taper very slow, then the Klonapin is next. And this was all prescribed and taken as directed! I'm such a dork, I didn't realize how bad the Klonapin were until I started looking into it while tapering from Tramadol. Two of the worst. You are brave to go so fast the last 6 months. I'm so happy for you! Thanks again. I just hope my own heart can take two tapers back to back for likely several years.
Hi Guys, Tommy, Thanks, I have seen Doctors. They know my pressure is high but I really appreciate the response. I didn't know if that was a real bad BP. It's the highest I've ever had. saw the Cardioligist in December and they weren't at all concerned. They knew I just finished the tapering. I was only taking 15mg a day for the last year, I had already gotten down some but i'm sure the 12+ years, which is probably more like 15 years at higher doses is playing a big part. That's a long time to be putting anything in your body every day. I feel a lot better tonight, it was a wave that lasted about 5 hours. Had one yesterday too. Take care Tommy, Thanks again
Hi Ruthie, I know how you feel. I'm so dumb I didn't even know I was hooked until a couple years ago when I tried to go from 20mg to 10mg. of Valium. I just eased down from 30 to 20 in a year or so without really trying and never felt a thing. The actual taper off the last 15mg was about 6 months. I still have some left, could have/should have tapered a little longer. I was tired of tapering. I might have felt better if I tapered down to -0-mg. I stopped at 0.833mg (a 5mg pill broken into 6 pieces). But that's 2nd guessing myself. It's a done deal now and I'm glad It's over now and just deal with it as best I can. The people here helped a lot.
You hang in there, if you want off them that's 1/2 the battle. I think that new Doctor thought he was messing with me. I was ready before I ever met him.
If there is anything I can do let me know and there are tons of people here that have been through a lot that will be happy to help. like I was told, You aren't alone, don't be afraid to ask questions.
Barry
Barry,
Please contact your doctor right away. You had a heart attack, and your blood pressure is way up. Don't care what they say, and get offended. A lot of doctors are *****. But that question doesn't sound unreasonable, he doesn't know you, I'm sure he just wants to get as much information as possible. This is your life. None of us can offer anything besides our personal experiences. Please, at least call a new one if you must, but please don't wait. 163/93 is very high.
What I have learned from friends who were W/D from benzos, it can last months depending on how long they took it.
bBarry,
I was put on Zanax 5 yrs then they switched me to Klonapin for a total of 8 yrs all together for anxiety. I had no idea it was so bad to take. I trusted my Dr. I'm going to be tapering off 1.5 mgs and wanted to know how long it took you? Thank you so much!
refills and atthebeach, LOL refills, 2 gallons of beer a night will do it if you do it for too long. You guys could be right none of us are getting younger, but blood pressure was never an issue in my family on either side and siblings. I really think it's the Valium, only 10 days out. Getting on BP medicine that I will have to take for life isn't going to happen right now. It's too soon except maybe prn.
Elevation in blood pressure is a listed side effect of Benzo wd.
I hope some others that have been through Benzo Hell jump in. atb, did your pressure spike when you stopped benzo's?
bBarry I agree with atb about your age. Makes sense to me. Although I managed to have high bp while taking loads of xanax. Maybe it was the 2 gallons of beer on top of them. Also I have heard of people experiencing their bp levels going up when they quit a benzo. Been taking lisinopril for years. Now with toprol....ike
Oh no no. It's not bad now. Still a bit above average, but that was probably due to the fact the last time it was checked a month ago I was getting ready to be put under for surgery. I quit nov21,so a month after thanksgiving. "Canadian" :))
Hi Krissy, Very interesting. So you must have stopped around Thanksgiving and your BP is still high? Sorry to hear that. Hope it's not too high. Drs don't even know all the damage their "medicine" can cause. We've gotta investigate them ourselves. A Doctor prescribed me some clonadine. I trusted him and have taken about 4 because they did make me feel better. The first hour it was making my heart pound really hard. I looked it up after the fact and found it is not for heart patients. It's probably the area I'm in but we are scraping the bottom of the Doctor Barrel around here.
Thanks
Hey Barry it could just be that the valium was keeping your bp low for the 12 years that you were on it.
It could be that your bp is now elevated because of your age.
I just had to Increase my lisinopril after 10 years of the same dose.
I am sorry by how he treated you and his belittling questions.
What was your bp at the doctors?
I not sure about the blood pressure thing with Valium. Again I was on the oxy,my BP was always so so low. Now it's not overly high, but deff been above the average. I think all them drugs just slow us right down on the insides. Giving us an almost vegetation state. So seems normal our BP would sky rocket after quitting. But if you've had a H.A before, then ya totally becareful!! And I agree your new docs a ****!!
