methadone detox=day 9

Hi All.   Well it is just going as well planned. No need to repeat symptoms,BUT,does this stuff ever hang on!Oh well.
Today I went to my REAL doctor, family, not the clinic quack, and he surprised me.He has known for years I went to m/done clinic and has all along encouraged me to get off it.When I told him I had stopped 9 days ago,he told me it will be a rough 3 to 6 weeks. He said to me, whatever you do,do not go back on that stuff.    I broke right down and cried.
It seemed he new the evil that is going on.within the medical community concerning methadone clinics
He said to come back in a month, keep up the good fight.
As I right this tears are flowing, because it is the first time I have made human contact ,FACE to FACE,with a person who understands!                                                                      karl

Hi... i am happy for you, karl... it's so good feeling that some one can understand our fight/plight , let your emotions and your tears run.....it's good for your soul now, there is a lot that has been kept inside.

I have a friend here that after 27 years on methadone has quitted and he is 90 days clean now...so trust that you will count 90 days too , best wishes for you :)

Congrats on Day 9 Karl, keep it moving forward.  I am officially jumping today from 5 mg...I would have ideally like to get a bit lower, but that is not in the cards for me, so I will have to inact a greater level of faith in my abilities to withstand the onslaught.  I have to admit that I am terrified from a previous experience where I missed dosing, but that was at 20mg.

I guess the only thing that matters is that I convince myself that it can not kill me, just make me very sick.  I am fortunate to be able to take some time away from work and my wife is on board in terms of handling the house stuff.

HEY Karl good to see you posting...people need to see just what it takes to get off methadone b/4 they make the commitment like we did...I relize it has saved lives
but today it is really over prescribed...unless you have exhausted all opportunity to get clean with many attempts or are in absolute chronic pain that can no longer be managed by conventitional pain pills methadone is a trap you dont want to find yourself in
I regret the first time I took it...I had no idea that it would lead to level of misery during
detox and then months after that it did...if more people see and read how awful this stuff is to get off of mabe we can open there eyes b/4 they get in over there heads like we did
im so happy to see you free Karl hang in there fight with everything you got and you will make a successful recovery good luck and God bless.....your friend Mark

Hey Karl:
My doctor knew of my situation too. He wanted me to get off methadone for a LONG time. When I started getting really low with my dose....12mg., I was seeing him on a regular basis and he kept telling me not to let the clinic talk me out of being done with them. Based on what you said in your post, I think you would feel a LOT better if you started going to either NA or AA meetings. Being around people who know what it's like to be in our situation has been an incredible help to me. Keep up the terrific work!! Mike
