Xanax seizures.

Hello. This is my first post. I am currently on 1mg of xanax 4x per day as prescribed but am now planning to taper off at .5mg every 6 days as that is all I have and no longer have a doc to prescribe them for me. I was in the ER this past weekend for panic attacks and I asked the doctor about my schedule and he said I would be fine doing it like that. I have been on benzos for about 6 or 7 months, but have only been on the xanax for the past month. My question is, do I run a high risk of fatal seizure tapering like that? I am very scared and have no one else to turn to to ask these questions.

the slower the better is usually how it goes, but since you asked the er doc and he said that was a good taper, follow that.  it really depends on how long you have used them, which ones you used, etc.  as to how bad wd will be.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have been reading the horror stories about coming off benzos and the consequences surrounding them. I start my taper Friday and am just worried if I am coming off too fast, as I've read about the Ashton method, which is much slower.

if you asked the er doctor and he said you would be ok, then you will be fine.  xanax is the worst of the benzo family, imo and you are lucky you were on that for a such a short time.  just do as the doc said.  try not to anticipate some of the horror stories you read.  many of them come from people who had been on xanax for a very long time.  if you start feeling really bad, just head back to the er and make sure you are ok
