hi,i was taking opium for 7 months after that my gp put me to methadone programe ,it has been 6 years ,evry year i try to stop it but it dosnot work, i have been to detox center twice and they were ok but as soon as i came out of detox center started using again,i am addicted to methadone even when i bring it down to 20 or less i start panicing ,i dont drink or smok and never tried any other drugs ,can anybody tell me what to do,thanks

Methadone is a hard long detox and there just isn't any way to get around it.You have to bite the bullet and go through the discomfort.I was on it for almost 2 years .I went cold turkey off of 25 mgs and have been free from it for almost 9 months now.Research indicates there is really no difference  in the detox from coming off of say 75 mgs or coming off of 7 mgs.Methadone is an extremely strong drug.One mg of methadone is = to 3 mgs of morphine.My advice for anyone trying to get out from under it's grasp is if you are on a higher dose taper down very slowly until you start to feel the discomfort in the decrease,then once you do,bite the bullet and jump.Theres just no way to escape it pain free.It took 2 weeks for the worst of the physical discomfort to begin to subside for me.Weeks 3-5 I could function a bit better with feeling a little more relief each day.Week 6 was a big turning point for me.It was really rough but it was the best decision I have ever made in my life to get out from under the hold methadone had on me.If I did it,you can do it to.I'm always around so if I can answer any more questions or help in any way just shoot me a pm.All the best.Peace...Kim

when you figure it out let know... i have been going to met clinic for 2 1/2 years now.  my doc was hydro then banging oxys.  i hate the clinic.  they say it is so good once you start and you feel so much better!  well now i am just addicted to methadone.  I tried to quit once and made it a total of 4 days off.  I went crazy "suicidal".  I want to quit but I am so scared  that i to will slip as i still have cravings for the needle.  I have not done that in about 8 mons now.  Good luck to you.

Keep posting. More people will be online soon and lots of addicts come here with methadone withdrawal experience. My doc was hydro and oxy. and weed.
