need help!!!

my 51 year old son is currently on a 100 per day mg menthodone program and has relapsed on alcohol - he is sober now and is planning to detox at the menthodone clinic and get in a 9 month rehab facility - they  (the rehab ) do not use any drugs for detox and my son says he cannot stand nothing from 100 mg - do you think this will work?

It can only works if he works it!! Once you start to taper off methadone you kinda like go back to the person you were prior to methadone, in turn, relapse is at a all time high, those drugs that you craved prior to methadone start to resurface in your mind again, basically you are back to square one once your off methadone, as methadone blankets all your cravings & desires for drugs, once your blanket comes off, its time to use what you learned & lean on your support system for relapse prevention. Its a hard drug to detox from, as it takes along time to get off it, I know, Im at 3mgs & while its not horrible, its not easy, it takes alot of strength & determination to beat this, but people do.  Lots of Luck Penelope

i am tapering from methadone as we speak. i would suggest he starts to taper before going to rehab especialy if they wont give him anything for the wd's . he can do this if it is what he wants to do . drinking alcohol while on methadone is not safe . good luck and please keep posting there are alot of knowlidgeable people on this form.

yeah just taper slow its not going to be a overnight thing but also theres a ton of viatims you can look up that helps alot methadone takes away alot of the viamins you need so thats where alot of you w.d.s come from

Do you mean he can not stand a dose less than 100 mg?  I would suggest tapering the methadone before going to the rehab...have not been on methadone.. someone will post soon who has more experience
